The Strategy, Support and Integrated Initiatives division provides strategic and integrated policy and project services and functions for Justice. The division’s focus centers on cross-divisional and cross-ministry projects. The Strategic Policy & Planning branch provides strategic and integrated policy and project services for the department of Justice a wide range of programs and services under department legislation.

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Strategic Policy and Engagement, the Strategic Engagement Manager provides leadership and direction to a team of Engagement professionals. As the Manager of Strategic Engagement, you will lead in formulation and execution of engagement strategies with internal and external parties to support work such as round tables, task forces and advisory groups as well as stakeholder engagements on priority initiatives for the ministry of Justice.

To be successful in the role, you will support and direct your team to undertake research on issues and topics relevant to the work of stakeholder relations and engagement and provide oversight of the development and execution of strategic engagement plans and engagement materials. You will be required to influence groups and individuals without positional authority. You will routinely work independently with internal and external stakeholders in situations that may have unclear parameters and accountabilities. You are therefore required to demonstrate good judgment and independent decision-making to support the integration and coordination of strategic priorities.

To be successful in this position, you will require leadership competencies, as well as strengths in project management, relationship building, agility, creative problem solving, drive for results and systems thinking. Strong program knowledge, including knowledge of legislation and program priorities is required. In this position you must be committed to continuous improvement and seek opportunities for outreach and education across departments, as well as continuously assess fluctuating systems and processes to support strategic engagement priorities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirement

  • University degree in a related discipline (such as social sciences, public or business administration, law or other).
  • 4 years related strategic engagement experience.

Assets:

  • Experience in policy development.
  • Experience leading professional staff.
  • Experience developing and writing briefing materials for executive-level decision makers.
  • Project management and coordination experience.
  • Experience with research methodologies and data analysis.

The following equivalencies may be considered:

  • A related Masters plus a minimum of 2 years related experience.
  • A related two-year diploma plus a minimum of 6 years related experience.
  • A related one-year certificate plus a minimum of 7 years related experience.
  • No post-secondary education plus a minimum of 8 years related experience.

Notes

  • Full time permanent position located in Edmonton (Oxbridge Place). 
  • Hours of work: 7.25 hours per day / 36.25 hours per week (Monday – Friday).
