Role Responsibilities

Join our team as the Privacy and Security Manager, where you will lead transformative initiatives to protect the privacy and security of vital health information. Under the guidance of the Director, Health System Cybersecurity and Privacy Operations, you will manage and elevate Alberta Health’s privacy and security programs, ensuring the highest standards of care and compliance for the health of Albertans.

Key responsibilities:

  • Developing and recommending privacy and security guidance and providing services to the department regarding the privacy and security requirements of the Health Information Act (HIA), the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP), and adherence to the Department's Information and Security Management Directives. 
  • Overseeing the development and maintenance of the Privacy Impact Assessment and Security Assessment process for the department; and monitoring departmental compliance with the privacy provisions of the HIA and FOIP. 
  • Serving as the go-to expert on privacy and security expertise as required to support Information Management initiatives. 
  • Collaborating with the HIA Policy Unit to ensure the requirements of the HIA and other pertinent legislation are appropriately managed.  
  • Partnering with both internal stakeholders within the Department and external stakeholders across the health sector to ensure privacy and security objectives are met

Qualifications

University degree in Information Systems Security Management, Information Technology, Information Systems, Public Administration, or a related field supplemented by a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible related experience is required.


Equivalency: 
Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education


The following knowledge, skills and experiences are considered assets:

  • Experience in security strategies and/or privacy operations.
  • Practical knowledge and/or experience working within the health system.
  • Experienced leading and maintaining teams with broad organizational roles, responsibility, and skillsets.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience briefing up  to senior leadership.
  • Skilled in fostering relationships, understanding challenges, and proposing effective solutions.
  • Completed Certifications: Certificate in Information Access and Protection of Privacy (IAPP) and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)

Notes

This competition will be used to staff one (1) full-time permanent position. 


Hours of Work
7.25 hours daily/ 36.25 hours weekly, Monday to Friday
 
Location
ATB Place North, Edmonton, Alberta. This position requires working from the office with an option to qualify for a hybrid work arrangement (in accordance with GOA policy).
