Role Responsibilities
As the Manager, Policy Alignment and Legislation, you will lead a team of specialists responsible for ensuring government legislation and policy are coordinated, aligned, and responsive to departmental and cross‑government priorities.
You will guide the development of key legislative and policy instruments, including ministerial orders, orders in council, cabinet reports, and briefing materials, while providing expert advice to senior leadership. This role is ideal for a strategic thinker who enjoys bringing clarity, coordination, and insight into complex policy and legislative environments.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the development of decision-making documents such as cabinet reports, policy decision briefing notes, ministerial orders, and orders in council.
- Coordinate and synthesize information from diverse sources to support consistent, complete, and high-quality policy analysis.
- Provide leadership in legislative planning and policy alignment across departmental program areas.
- Develop a forward-looking, department-wide policy and legislative plan, ensuring validation with divisions across the organization.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support effective policy and legislative processes.
- Support short- and long‑term planning of departmental policy priorities, advising ADM and DM offices as needed.
- Mentor, coach, and equip staff with tools, resources, and training to deliver excellent policy and legislative services.
- Lead and support multi-disciplinary teams in the execution of policy and planning initiatives.
- Provide regular reporting on progress toward policy and legislative agenda commitments.
- Direct research on trends, best practices, and emerging issues to assess their impact and application.
- Champion the branch as a centre of excellence for policy planning, legislative development, capacity building, and guidance resources.
- Oversee development and delivery of training programs and ensure the ongoing currency and accessibility of policy and legislative guidance materials.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- A university degree in social or environmental sciences, public administration, business, communications or public relations, or a related field.
- Minimum of (3) years extensive related experience in policy and legislative development.
Equivalency:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 years of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year education.
Assets:
- Strong knowledge of government decision‑making structures, including cabinet and Minister policy, and legislative approval processes.
- Understanding of legislative frameworks and legislation development and approval processes.
- Experience leading teams, supervising staff, and/or overseeing complex projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong critical thinking, strategic analysis, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Effective interpersonal and facilitation skills, with a collaborative mindset.

Notes
This is a full-time permanent position. The schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM to 4:30 PM (36.25 hours per week).
