Curriculum Division
Curriculum Division provides strategic leadership in establishing provincial standards and guidelines for curriculum for all subjects and grades Kindergarten to Grade 12. As part of the ministry’s ongoing focus on student learning, the division develops, reviews, revises and maintains provincial curriculum and associated learning and teaching resources in English and French.
Role Responsibilities
Are you a strategic and collaborative leader with a passion for shaping K–12 education in Alberta? The Ministry of Education and Childcare is seeking two experienced managers to provide leadership in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Alberta's provincial curriculum. These opportunities offer the chance to influence learning outcomes for students across the province while leading multidisciplinary teams in a complex and dynamic policy environment.
About the Role
We are recruiting for two Manager positions within the Curriculum & Career Education Division:
• Manager, Mathematics
• Manager, Sciences & Wellness
Both positions report to the Director, Mathematics, Sciences and Wellness and provide strategic leadership, policy advice, project oversight, stakeholder engagement, and people leadership to support Alberta's K–12 curriculum priorities. The positions supervise professional staff and work closely with educators, educational partners, ministry stakeholders, and subject matter experts to advance curriculum excellence and implementation readiness.
Manager, Mathematics
The Manager, Mathematics leads the stewardship and development of provincial mathematics curriculum, supporting areas such as numeracy, statistics, algebra, geometry, measurement, probability, vectors, calculus, proportional reasoning, and financial literacy.
Manager, Sciences & Wellness
The Manager, Sciences & Wellness leads curriculum development and implementation across science and wellness disciplines, including biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, life science, computer science, artificial intelligence, digital literacy, physical education, wellness, and related programming.
Both positions will:
• Lead curriculum development, renewal, implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Manage complex projects, competing priorities, and stakeholder relationships.
• Provide strategic advice, briefing materials, and recommendations to senior leadership.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams and foster a positive, high-performing workplace culture.
• Engage internal and external partners to support evidence-informed decision-making.
• Ensure curriculum products align with legislation, policy, research, and ministry priorities.
• Support knowledge management, quality assurance, governance, and operational excellence

Qualifications
A University graduation in a related field; and 4 years of progressive related experience ; or equivalent as described below.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Proven leadership experience managing and coaching technical or professional staff is required.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
• University degree in Education or a related field; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
• Progressive leadership experience, typically 5–7 years, in policy development, project leadership, curriculum development, or related areas.
• Experience leading complex projects and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, collaboration, and consensus-building skills.
• Excellent research, analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong understanding of Alberta's K–12 education system and curriculum development processes.
Assets
• Experience with artificial intelligence tools and responsible AI practices.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and French
• Knowledge of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit cultures
• Familiarity with 21st century learning principles
• Strong research, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Alberta teaching certificate with leadership experience

There are two permanent full time positions working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday. working out of Edmonton.
