The Office of Statistics and Information (OSI) is the official Alberta statistical agency and the provincial focal point for Statistics Canada. Our mandate is to plan, promote, consolidate and develop social and economic statistics relating to Alberta. The office is responsible for publishing, investigating, and collaborating across the Government of Alberta (GoA) on questions relating to social or economic conditions and issues.

Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director, Data and Statistical Services, the Manager, Financial Statistics leads a team responsible for producing and analyzing financial statistics, supporting cross government financial reporting, and coordinating statistical activities across ministries. The role provides strategic insights to support budgeting, fiscal planning, and policy development, including analysis of Alberta’s fiscal position, government financial trends (e.g., taxation and labour costs), and business and industry financial performance.
This position also oversees the development of high quality financial reporting products to support ministry and corporate planning. In addition, it builds strong partnerships across government and with Statistics Canada to ensure timely access to reliable data, while supporting national statistical initiatives and maintaining Alberta’s role as a key statistical partner.
Responsibilities Includes but are not limited to:
- Leads the analysis of financial data related to industry sectors, business activity, cost structures, investment patterns, and other economic indicators to support policy development, strategic decision-making, and economic reporting.
- Assess data related to personal and corporate income statistics, taxation patterns, revenue sources, and related fiscal trends to provide insights into household and business income trends and inform fiscal planning.
- Lead the development and enhancement of financial reporting products that address information gaps and support ministry and corporate financial planning.
- Coordinate collection of feedback from financial reporting stakeholders across ministries to identify gaps, clarify data needs, and inform the future state of financial reporting in the Government of Alberta.
- Work closely with Statistics Canada to coordinate access to custom data, administrative datasets, and statistical resources.
- Supervise and mentor staff responsible for financial statistics analysis, financial reporting data and statistical activities coordination, ensuring alignment with OSI's mandate.

Qualifications
Requirements:
University graduation in Finance, Economics, and Social Science or other related field plus four years progressively responsible related experience.
Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.
Assets:
- Significant experience in financial analysis, financial statistics, income tax statistics, economics, or related analytical fields.
- Experience leading teams or analytical functions in a complex organizational environment.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and consultation skills, including working with finance, IT/IMT, privacy, legal, and program areas to resolve complex data issues.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial/statistical insights into clear, actionable advice for senior decision‑makers.
- Demonstrated project management skills, including planning, risk management, and delivery of multi‑stakeholder analytical or data initiatives.
- Proven supervisory and people‑leadership skills, including performance management, coaching, workload planning, and fostering analytical excellence.
- Strong applied statistical and analytical skills using tools such as SAS, R, Python, SQL, and Power BI.
- Knowledge of Statistics Canada products and services is an asset, including survey products, custom tabulations, classifications, microdata access, and data quality frameworks.
- A master’s degree in a related field.

This position is a permanent full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (in office)
