The Office of the Controller is responsible for government accounting policies and financial reporting, financial management and control policies, risk management (financial and audit risk) and financial business process management. The division is a leader in sponsoring, supporting and facilitating initiatives with outcomes focused on effectiveness, efficiency, best practice and continual improvement by the government financial community. Corporate Internal Audit Services (CIAS) reports administratively to the Controller and performs internal audits across government.

Role Responsibilities
Join the Office of the Controller’s Corporate Consolidation and Reporting team and be at the heart of Alberta’s “One GoA” financial transformation. As the Manager, you will spearhead province-wide initiatives in SAP-based 1GX to automate and streamline financial consolidation, reporting, and operations for maximum efficiency and compliance.
Reporting to the Director, you will co-lead high-impact GoA financial reporting projects from adopting new accounting standards to automating working papers and developing system reports. You’ll advise on 1GX master data integrity, collaborate with OOC teams, ministries, and the 1GX Centre of Excellence, and ensure the GoA finance community meets its public-sector accounting, legislative, and policy requirements.
You will drive business transformation by developing project plans, leading automation initiatives, and implementing change-management strategies to standardize processes across ministries. In corporate reporting, you’ll perform complex financial analyses, reconcile data in 1GX, and deliver training and workshops. You’ll build and maintain stakeholder relationships to coordinate project activities, manage communications, and ensure senior-leadership alignment. Additionally, you’ll optimize master data governance, lead continuous-improvement efforts in system processes, and troubleshoot system, policy, and reporting issues that affect the entire GoA.

Qualifications
University graduation is required in Business, Accounting, Economics, or a related field, plus a recognized Canadian accounting designation (CPA, CMA). Plus minimum four years of progressively responsible experience in financial reporting or SAP-based consolidation.
Candidates should possess working knowledge of public-sector accounting standards (PSAB) and Government of Alberta financial policies, along with experience in 1GX S4 and BPC or similar ERP/financial systems. Demonstrated project management expertise, including the ability to lead multi-stakeholder initiatives, is essential, as are strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
The following are considered assets:
- Policy development or process-engineering experience in a public-sector context.
- Experience automating financial reporting and working papers.
- Familiarity with change-management frameworks and training program design.
- Advanced Excel, data-visualization, or scripting skills (e.g., Power Automate, Python).
- Demonstrated ability to build consensus and drive continuous-improvement across large organizations.

Notes
This is a permanent, full-time position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
This position will be located in the Terrace Building in Edmonton.
Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary. This competition may be used to fill future roles at the same or lower classifications.
