The Digital Design and Delivery (DDD) division is the Government of Alberta's centre for modern digital delivery, focused on accelerating the design of simpler, faster, and better human-centered digital services.

 

Within DDD, the Software Delivery Branch provides architectural leadership, CloudOps, DevOps practices, quality engineering, and software delivery excellence across product and platform teams.

Role Responsibilities

The Software Delivery branch is looking for a Manager, Architecture. This position reports to the Director, Architecture and is accountable for leading a team of Digital Architects within the DDD, providing architectural leadership for portfolios containing multidisciplinary product teams. This role ensures architectural practices are AI-first, integrating AI-driven tools and methodologies to rapidly design, build, and maintain scalable, API-first solutions.

The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Lead and develop a team of Digital Architects, providing direction, mentorship, and oversight to deliver high-quality, AI-enabled architectural solutions.
  • Drive AI-first architecture design, ensuring solutions are API-first, scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise standards.
  • Translate business needs into architectural strategies and roadmaps, enabling modernization and integration of AI-driven solutions.
  • Ensure alignment with governance, security, and ethical AI standards, contributing to the evolution of architecture frameworks and best practices.
  • Optimize operations and resource management, including capacity planning, procurement, and performance oversight of internal and contracted resources.
  • Foster strong collaboration across teams and stakeholders, enabling integrated delivery and adoption of AI-first practices across the organization.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • A university degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology), supplemented by five (5) years of progressively responsible, related experience.
  • At least 3 years of demonstrated experience in a supervisory or team lead capacity, managing and mentoring technical professionals (preferably architects or senior developers).
  • Proven hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and integrating AI-driven solutions and generative AI tools into architectural processes and software development lifecycles.
  • Demonstrated track record of successful digital service delivery using agile and product-oriented approaches, with a focus on AI-enabled outcomes.

 

Equivalencies:

  • A related master’s degree and a minimum of four (4) years of related experience; or
  • A related two-year diploma and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience; or
  • A related one-year certificate and a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience; or
  • A minimum of nine (9) years of related experience in lieu of formal education.

 

Assets:

  • Experience with modern digital architecture practices, including cloud platforms, API-first design, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of frameworks (TOGAF, Zachman, or equivalent) adapted for AI-first delivery principles.
  • A hands-on "builder" who uses generative AI and agentic tools daily for executive grade work. Skilled in prompt design, RAG, and evaluating AI outputs for risk, hallucination, and sensitivity.
  • Deep understanding of modern process automation alongside the communication skills to guide staff through workflow transitions.
  • Expertise in major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and API design patterns (RESTful, OpenAPI) optimized for secure AI integration.
  • Familiarity with Information Management policies, digital service standards, cybersecurity protocols, and the Digital Architecture Framework.
