APS Communications leads internal communications in the Alberta Public Service (APS). It supports the President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance, Public Service Commissioner, Deputy Minister of Executive Council, and works closely with Communications and Public Engagement to ensure communications in the APS are coordinated, effective, and aligned. It also oversees the development, delivery and evaluation of APS-wide engagement initiatives that underpin an engaged workforce.

APS Communications needs a manager to lead a team of communications professionals who provide internal communications advice and support across the Alberta government, and to support the Public Service Commission on a variety of priority issues and initiatives.

Qualifications

University graduation in communications, public relations, journalism, English or a related field, supplemented by three years of related experience. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.
 
Required:

  • Experience in internal and external strategic communications planning, issues management.
  • Experience with project management, including multiple projects under tight or competing deadlines.
  • Experience in website management.
  • Experience preparing a variety of written materials, i.e., articles, speeches, briefing materials.
  • Strong editing skills and knowledge of CP Style.
  • Experience providing leadership. 
  • Supervisory experience.


Assets:

  • Experience working in a public sector or government setting.
  • Experience in digital, television or print media and graphic design.
  • Change management experience.
  • Experience with MS Office.
  • Training in SharePoint site design and content management.

This position works out of the Peace Hills Trust Tower, located at 10011 – 109 Street, Edmonton (Hybrid, i.e. work from home two days per week)
