Provincial Campus-based Care (PCBC) centres across the province offer 24/7 trauma-informed care and secure services for vulnerable youth (ages 12-17 receiving child intervention services) and their families. PCBCs integrate best practices to help youth reach their potential and address emotional and behavioural therapeutic needs.  

PCBC goal is for youth to return to a less intensive form of care, become independent or return to their families. PCBC encompasses several programs to support youth such as Indigenous/cultural supports, recreation therapy services, on-site schools, medical services, transition and connection services, addiction support, occupational therapy and access to facility dogs.

Role Responsibilities

We are hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse to work in 24/7 Provincial Campus Based Care Centres across Alberta. Reporting to the Nurse Supervisor, you will be responsible to provide nursing and residential support services for in-care youths ages 12 – 17 with complex needs.  This is a mobile position based out of Edmonton with a 60% travel expectations to all other Provincial Campus Based Care sites in Lethbridge, Lac La Biche and Medicine Hat.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Responsible for ensuring effective service delivery by planning, implementation of nursing/health
    services by:
    • Complete patient intakes and care plans in a timely manner, utilizing tools, forms, and processes that are aligned with PCBC policy and procedures.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and utilize the nursing process with assessments, interventions, monitors, evaluates and documents treatment and it's progress.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and actively responds to medical emergencies and experience in de-escalating crisis situations.
    • Facilitates and collaborates with our providers in clinic (Pediatricians, Psychiatrist and Nurse Practitioner) along with the ability to provide concise and objective assessments when contacting for consultation and follow up.
    • Coordinating appropriate nursing and health supports such as labs, pharmacy, medical vendors and community resources.
    • Practice according to the code of ethics and practice standards of CLPNA.
    • Ensuring that all documentation is factual, accurate and completed in a timely manner.
    • Responsible for monitoring, maintaining and ordering supplies for healthcare services as per PCBC policies and procedures.
    • Support, monitor and educate in care and medication delivery with the frontline staff.
    • Demonstrate leadership, superior problem solving, critical thinking skills, prioritize and work independently while handling multiple competing priorities.
    • Working knowledge of harm reduction practices, abuse and trauma, sexual exploitation, addictions, mental health, homelessness, inner city, and Indigenous culture.

 

  • Monitors and maintains a healthy living environment by:
    • Ability to create a safe and caring atmosphere for the children and youth we serve using trauma informed care approach.
    • Acting as an advocate and using a holistic approach to enhance the quality of life for the children and youth residing at PCBC.
    • Liaising with parents, guardians, child intervention practitioners, CYC's and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standard:

  • Degree or Diploma in Nursing and registered with the College of Licensed Practical Nurse of Alberta (CLPNA) and in good standing.


Preference will be given to those who have:

  • Experience working with and treating youth
  • Mental Health treatment experience
  • Experience with Addictions
  • Crisis driven care and trauma informed practice
  • Working knowledge on psychotropic medication, psychopathology, and harm reduction care model.

Hours of Work are Monday to Friday, 38.75 hours per week (full-time).

Role Requirements:

  • Registered with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta.
  • Possessing a valid, full (Non-GDL) Alberta Class 5 driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • The ability to travel within the Province is required.

  • Proof of valid driver’s license and Driver’s Abstract
  • Suitable security screening (Criminal Record check with vulnerable sector). A completed CRC with VS within 6 months at time of application is acceptable.
