Role Responsibilities
The Lead Theatre Technician provides technical support for the theatre at the Royal Alberta Museum for the Facility Rentals program. The position is responsible for setting up and operating theatre equipment needed for events. Equipment such as microphones, video recorders, projectors, lighting and sound mixing equipment to be operated by the position for the purpose of various types of events and clients. This position requires the incumbent to meet with clients as needed and assist with all technical needs for a variety of events. Duties include:
Event Management
• Operate theatre equipment such as microphones, video recorders, projectors, lighting, and sound mixing systems for various internal and public events.
• Serve as the on-site representative for the museum and Government of Alberta (GoA) during events, addressing all technical requirements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to facility rentals, equipment, and client needs, ensuring satisfaction.
• Maintain event schedules, manage delays, and ensure completion of all technical services including sound checks, rehearsals, and equipment setup prior to event commencement.
• Ensure technical workspaces—including control booths, stages, backstage areas, hallways, and storage—are clean, organized, and compliant with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards.
• Coordinate with theatre technicians, museum staff, contractors, and vendors for equipment setup and event execution.
• Enforce museum policies, safety procedures, rental agreements, and site regulations.
• Prepare detailed technical setup documentation for all facility rentals.
• Support scheduling and training theatre technicians.
Customer Service Excellence
• Communicate professionally in person, via phone, and email.
• Manage client expectations and resolve issues during rental periods.
• Maintain professionalism in all interactions.
• Respond promptly to client requests and concerns.
• Provide event activity reports to relevant museum staff.
• Effectively manage large crowds during events.
Administrative Support
• Maintain event areas in an organized and clutter-free condition.
• Replenish supplies and monitor event feedback.
• Attend required training sessions.

Qualifications
Two-year diploma in in theatre production plus two years related experience; or equivalent as described below.
Equivalency:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience.
• 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Knowledge and Experience:
• Experience with digital sound and projection equipment.
• Experience in conducting evaluations on digital equipment that is malfunctioning.
• Experience performing minor electrical repairs on theatre equipment.
• Client focused approach to customer service.
• Knowledgeable in event management industry equipment trends.

Notes
This is for a wage/part-time position until on or before April 1st, 2026, located in Edmonton.
Your hours of work will be determined by your supervisor. Please note that you will only be paid for actual hours worked. This position is required to work daytime, evening, weekends and statutory holidays. This operational schedule may change, and this position's schedule would change accordingly. Employees are expected to be available a minimum number of shifts per week.
