Role Responsibilities

Are you an expert in information management? Do you want to make a meaningful impact on the judicial and operational excellence of the Court of Appeal of Alberta?

As the Knowledge and Information Technology Officer for the Court of Appeal of Alberta, you will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and supporting the Court’s information systems and digital tools. This role leads a portfolio that includes strategic records management, digital information governance, and innovative knowledge-sharing solutions across a legal and administrative environment.

You will work closely with staff to understand current operational workflows, identify opportunities for digital improvement, and lead the implementation of systems that enhance access, efficiency, and compliance. Your ability to assess business needs, translate them into practical system solutions, and drive adoption of digital tools will be essential to modernizing the Court’s information management environment.

In this role, you will:

  • Design, implement, and maintain digital information management systems that support the Court’s operational and legal requirements.
  • Lead the development and execution of records management policies and procedures in compliance with legislation and government standards.
  • Drive digital transformation by identifying and implementing technology solutions that improve knowledge sharing, data access, and court administration.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in information governance, providing strategic advice to senior leadership, and staff.
  • Analyze existing processes and workflows to recommend system enhancements and automation opportunities.
  • Conduct risk assessments related to information handling and recommend safeguards to protect sensitive court data.
  • Develop and deliver training, resources, and communication materials to support knowledge management and the successful adoption of new technologies.
  • Lead projects from initiation through to implementation, ensuring alignment with the Court’s strategic priorities and public service values.
  • Evaluate system performance, gather user feedback, and drive continuous improvement to meet evolving organizational needs.

Qualifications

Required: University graduation in a related field (e.g. information management, records management, information technology, library sciences, or a related discipline) plus 4 years of related experience in business analysis, digital process improvement, or systems implementation, with a focus on automating workflows, optimizing information management, or supporting organizational change.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience will be considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets
Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Work experience in developing and maintaining enterprise information management systems, including digital tools and records solutions.
  • Work experience leading or supporting automation initiatives, business process reviews, or digital transformation projects in a complex organization.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 tools (SharePoint, PowerAutomate, PowerApps, and Power BI), as well as experience with web design and digital user experience.
  • Work experience in translating operational needs into system requirements and negotiating with stakeholders to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Work experience in change management, user training, and supporting the adoption and implementation of new technologies.

Position Information:

  • This posting is for one permanent, full-time position.
  • Location: Edmonton or Calgary, depending on the successful candidate’s place of residence.
  • Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
  • Some travel between Calgary and Edmonton may be required, depending on operational needs.
