The Ministry of Municipal Affairs assists municipalities in providing well-managed, collaborative, and accountable local government to Albertans. Our main responsibilities are:
 

  • Funding supports for municipalities
  • A system that strives to ensure appropriate safety standards for the construction and maintenance of buildings and equipment

Role Responsibilities

The Technical and Corporate Services Issues Manager leads and coordinates the identification, assessment, and resolution of emerging issues within the division. They prioritize and research issues, gather supporting information, recommend actions, and oversee issue management through to resolution. The Manager provides guidance to division leaders and staff on behalf of the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) or manages issues directly.

Additionally, the role supports the ADM in strategic and operational management, including legislative and policy initiatives and team building, while ensuring effective communication and information flow within the ADM's Office (ADMO) and with other branches, divisions, and stakeholders. The Manager establishes communication processes, monitors issues, briefs the ADM on developments, and oversees responses to correspondence, action requests, and division projects.

Issue Management and ADM Support:

  • Identify, monitor, and analyze trends to address strategic and operational issues effectively.
  • Brief the ADM on emerging issues, risks, and recommended actions.
  • Develop responses and resolve complex issues through consultation with branch heads and stakeholders.


Support Division Decision-Making:

  • Oversee and enhance division decision-making and administrative processes.
  • Coordinate team agendas, consolidate materials, and follow up on action items to implement decisions.


Project Coordination:

  • Manage and track division-wide or cross-division projects to ensure timely deliverables.
  • Remove barriers and align projects with departmental priorities.


Information Flow and Communication:

  • Liaise with branches to ensure clear, consistent, and high-quality communication.
  • Act as a bridge between the ADMO, Communications, and other divisions for correspondence, reports, and stakeholder engagements.


Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support collaboration and meet division priorities.

Qualifications

Minimum recruitment standards outline the minimum education and experience required for appointment to a job classification.

University graduation in a field related to the position assignment such as Public Administration, Business, Economics, Communication, Political Science, Law supplemented by four years related experience. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis. 

Equivalency:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.


Assets:

  • Experience developing policy and/or recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Experience managing a wide variety of projects, within changing timelines and priorities. 
  • Experience with operational/business planning and reporting. 
  • Experience managing and leading professional or support staff.
  • Knowledge of the safety codes or the new home buyer protection programs, including applicable legislation and regulations, and/or corporate strategic services

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours per week.
