Alberta Infrastructure designs, builds, manages, and maintains government-owned and operated facilities, and collaborates with other ministries to ensure that schools, hospitals and government facilities infrastructure meet the needs of Alberta’s population. Role Responsibilities

The intern's main responsibilities will focus on learning on-the-job and assisting the Senior Mechanical Engineer with the mandate to develop mechanical design standards and guidelines, actively participate in projects, provide mechanical design expertise for new construction and solving problems in existing facilities.

 

The primary responsibilities for the Intern – Mechanical Engineer include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Receive training, mentorship, and gain hands-on experience in Mechanical Engineering related to buildings.
  • Provide assistance to Senior Mechanical Engineer with Design reviews, Investigation of mechanical deficiencies, and Engineering analysis and verification
  • Attend site meetings, record site conditions by taking notes, photos and measurements
  • Research in building codes, design standards, design trends, new technologies
  • Work and learn with other Technical Services members as required

Qualifications

Required 

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering within 2 years of graduation from an accredited university.
  • Eligible for registration with The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT).


 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Superior investigation and problem-solving skills.
  • Well organized, have excellent interpersonal skills and work effectively with others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with emphasis on client services, teamwork and collaboration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

 

Assets

  • Previous employment experience related to buildings and HVAC systems
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license
