Assisted Living and Social Services (ALSS) provides supports for seniors, families, and communities, and helps Albertans access disability services, continuing care, financial supports, affordable housing, services for the homeless, and other social-based programs. The Housing Division within Assisted Living and Social Services uses a community-based delivery model for the provision of housing programs, initiatives, and services to a wide variety of Albertans in need of housing solutions. The Housing Division works with over 350 housing providers (municipalities, housing management bodies, Indigenous governments and organizations, and non-profit and private sector organizations) to provide stable and sustainable lower-cost housing for Albertans in need, including support for existing and new housing options for over 120,000 low-income families, individuals, seniors, and individuals with disabilities.
Role Responsibilities
Are you a self-motivated, results-driven individual with a passion of offering strategic advice and supporting senior leadership in preparing for bilateral and multilateral negotiations to advance affordable housing initiatives in Alberta?
This role requires deep expertise in Alberta’s public housing sector, as well as comprehensive knowledge of cross-jurisdictional programs, policies, and legislation across the housing continuum.
Responsibilities:
In this role you will lead and support provincial housing initiatives by interpreting intergovernmental agreements, preparing the department for bilateral and multilateral negotiations, coordinating outcome reporting, advising senior officials, and representing the Division in federal, provincial, and territorial forums.
As the Intergovernmental Relations Analyst, you will support provincial housing initiatives by researching and analyzing policies, preparing briefings and recommendations, representing the Housing Division on committees, engaging cross-ministry and intergovernmental partners and stakeholders, and advising senior leaders on complex intergovernmental and policy issues.
You will be responsible for providing strategic advice, briefings, and issues analysis to senior leaders to support informed decision-making and effective participation in provincial and intergovernmental housing initiatives.
You will build collaborative relationships with cross-ministry and intergovernmental partners and advise senior leaders on complex, high-profile housing issues, including the impacts of federal policies and intergovernmental agreements on affordable housing in Alberta.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- University degree in a related field such as social sciences, public administration, humanities, public policy, etc.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in policy research, analysis, and development.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Equivalency: One year of education for one year of experience; or one year of experience for one year of education.
Assets:
- Understanding of GoA and Ministry strategic goals, applicable legislation, regulations, and policies (e.g., Alberta Housing Act and Regulations; Provincial Priorities Act and Regulations).
- Leadership and relationship management skills, including ability to influence actions and decisions of others through provision of strategic advice and information.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Notes
This is a full-time permanent position, with a standard work week of 36.25 hours, Monday through Friday.
Work location is in Edmonton.
