Economic Strategy and Investment Division
The Economic Strategy Division is focused on ensuring strategies and related policies are developed with a broad economic lens and line of sight to economic growth and job creation. The division leverages stakeholder intelligence, robust economic principles and advanced data analytics to formulate effective strategies that support job creating investments in Alberta.
Economic Policy and Investment Competitiveness Branch
The Economic Policy and Investment Competitiveness Branch supports industry growth by developing economic policy, identifying industrial opportunities and working with stakeholders to develop and implement initiatives that further broad-based industry competitiveness and diversification.
Industry Competitiveness and Policy Unit
The Industry Competitiveness and Policy Unit contributes to the development of a competitive economic environment to support industry growth and diversification. This includes developing policies, strategies, and initiatives focused on supporting and growing Alberta's primary, enabling, and nascent industries in order to create jobs, attract investment, and diversify the economy.

The Industry Policy Analyst plays a key role in advancing Alberta’s economic competitiveness by supporting research, policy development, and strategic initiatives. The position focuses on areas such as industry support and growth, productivity, regulatory reform, airport competitiveness, and priority sectors including construction, logistics, and transportation. The analyst works collaboratively as part of a team to inform decisions that drive investment, growth, and diversification.
Responsibilities:
- Research and Analysis
- Conduct jurisdictional, market, and economic research and analysis.
- Collect and evaluate data from statistical databases, legislation, and policy documents.
- Perform literature reviews and environmental scans.
- Apply quantitative and qualitative methods to interpret findings.
- Create data visualizations (e.g., charts, graphs).
- Policy and Program Development
- Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies and programs.
- Maintain tracking systems and ensure timelines are met.
- Update and extract data from program databases.
- Communication and Reporting
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Translate technical findings into clear, accessible language.
- Prepare reports, briefing materials, and respond to information requests.
- Strategic Support
- Contribute to initiatives aligned with government priorities.
- Assess potential impacts of policy issues on programs and services.
- Other Duties
- Perform additional tasks as assigned

Qualifications
University graduation in Economics, Business, Public Policy, Public Administration, or a related field. No experience required.
Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, as outlined below:
Equivalency Criteria:
- One year of education is considered equivalent to one year of experience.
- One year of experience is considered equivalent to one year of education.
The position requires the following knowledge, skills and experiences:
- Experience in strategic planning, policy development, and economic or market research and analysis.
- Skilled in preparing materials for reports, briefings, and presentations.
- Knowledge of legislation, regulations, and policies affecting Alberta’s industrial economy, supply chains, and logistics, as well as related economic development programs.
- Understanding of key issues impacting Alberta’s industries and competitiveness.
- Ability to collaborate on sector strategies, policy, and program development, and build relationships with subject matter experts and stakeholders.
- Strong project management skills and knowledge of policy and program development frameworks.
- Experience in policy/program assessment and stakeholder engagement is an asset.
- Broad understanding of economic development concepts and ability to apply a systemic approach to research and analysis.

This is a full-time permanent position with 36.25 hours of work per week, Monday to Friday.
Work location is in Edmonton.
