Residential and Support ServicesEdmonton
Residential and Support Services (RSS) is grounded in person-centered values and philosophy, fostering environments that enhance the spirit, mind, and body of individuals with developmental disabilities. RSS provides 24-hour care to adults and seniors with developmental and physical disabilities.

RSS is comprised of eight Community Homes, including one respite home, located throughout the city of Edmonton. Each residence is licensed to accommodate up to seven individuals.

Role Responsibilities

You will be responsible to assist Individuals with intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities and high complex medical needs to meet their essentials and interests. Working within a variety of home settings (24/7), the position focuses on providing individual-centered supports, using a holistic approach, to achieve optimum levels of personal fulfillment, independence, quality of life and community inclusion.
 
As the successful candidate you will be involved in activities/outings, administering medications, assisting with activities of daily living (personal care, bathing, toileting, grooming, etc.), attending appointments, preparing meals, communication with families/guardians, interactions with community stakeholders, and general housekeeping duties. 

You will respect the individuality of each person served and treat all with dignity. Individual Support Workers demonstrate professionalism, take initiative, communicate effectively and utilize problem solving skills. The role requires manual dexterity and the ability to move and transfer Individuals.

To be successful in this position you must have a strong commitment to work in a team setting; contributing to a positive healthy and respectful work environment. As an Individual Support Worker, you are required to use computers and technologies daily for operations.

Qualifications

Individual Support Worker 1:

  • High school diploma and six months of experience working in group living, residential care, or related setting.


Individual Support Worker 2:

  • High school diploma and one year of experience working in group living, residential care, or related setting.

Equivalency for both:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
 
Assets (for both):

  • Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g. nursing, Health Care Aide)
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities or vulnerable populations.
  • Current, up-to-date Canadian First Aid Certification is highly recommended
  • Experience with personal care and mobility assistance (e.g. lifts, wheelchairs, transfers)
  • Experience administering medications

 
To be successful in this role you will need strong verbal and written communication skills. 

The job requires a high level of physical fitness due to non-ambulatory and fully dependent population being served. Lifting and transferring of children is part of the regular daily duties. The successful candidate(s) must be able to work all shifts including days, afternoons, awake overnights, weekends and called in on short notice.

  • Hours of work are 38.75 hours weekly
  • Casual Wage positions to be filled. Location: Edmonton, AB and Calgary, AB
  • These positions involve shift work and will require lifting and moving of individuals and equipment.
  • The successful candidate(s) must be able to work all shifts including days, afternoons, awake overnights, weekends and called in on short notice if needed.
  • This role requires that you have a valid Class 5 Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada. A current work visa is required.
  • Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.
