Role Responsibilities

TEC is seeking a collaborative, thoughtful leader to build and strengthen respectful relationships with First Nations, Métis communities, and Indigenous organizations across the province. In this strategic role, you will help ensure that Indigenous voices meaningfully inform transportation planning and policy, contributing to inclusive, community-driven infrastructure that reflects the diversity of Alberta.
As Manager of Indigenous Relations, you’ll lead TEC’s efforts to build enduring partnerships with First Nations, Métis communities, and Indigenous organizations. Reporting to the Director of Economic Corridors, you will act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and represent TEC in important and often complex engagements with Indigenous partners. You’ll provide strategic coordination across divisions, helping guide decision-making on infrastructure initiatives, funding programs, and policy matters that intersect with Indigenous rights and priorities.
Your leadership will directly influence how TEC engages with Indigenous communities, contributing to both reconciliation efforts and the development of safe, efficient, and inclusive transportation corridors.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Leading the development of strategic advice and materials for senior TEC and Government of Alberta leadership on Indigenous relations.
- Facilitating meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities through relationship-building, dialogue tables, and collaborative working groups.
- Managing stakeholder relationships with Indigenous leadership, communities, organizations, and advocacy groups in a politically sensitive environment.
- Supporting the development, implementation, and monitoring of grant programs, operational policies, and engagement strategies that reflect Indigenous and ministry priorities.
- Coaching and guiding staff to engage effectively with Indigenous communities, while fostering a collaborative and culturally safe team environment.
- Representing TEC on multi-stakeholder committees and cross-ministry initiatives, helping shape integrated approaches to Indigenous engagement.
- Resolving complex or previously unresolved issues that emerge between TEC divisions and Indigenous stakeholders through skilled negotiation and problem-solving.
- Monitoring and supporting the strategic allocation of resources, financial accountability, and staff development within the Indigenous Relations unit.
- Contributing to long-range planning and identification of emerging trends to ensure TEC’s programs and initiatives remain relevant and forward-thinking.

Qualifications
Required:
- A related university degree (e.g., Business Administration, Social Science, Natural Resources, etc.), and a minimum of four (4) years of related experience. Equivalencies may be considered.
- A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
- Proven experience leading stakeholder engagement initiatives.
Preferred:
- Experience in leading or managing a team of professionals.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with Indigenous communities, leadership, or organizations.
- Knowledge of grant program administration or coordination.
Equivalencies are:
- A related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience; or a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience in lieu of formal education.

Additional Position Details:
- This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).
- Location: Twin Atria Building, 4999 98 Ave, Edmonton, AB T6B 2X3
- Traveling will consist of less than 25% of the work schedule.
