Forestry and Parks - Responsible for growing manufactured wood products, preserving, and managing public lands and protected areas. The Hunting and Fishing Branch – promotes sustainable hunting, trapping, and angling opportunities for all Albertans using objective-based management of game and fish. The branch is responsibly for the management and allocation of Alberta’s fish and wildlife resources including statutory decision making, engagement and consultations as well as policy surrounding the public, private and commercial uses of these resources.

Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Directors of Wildlife Allocation and Use and Fish Allocation and Use, this role provides essential internal support across wildlife, fisheries and licensing programs. The position focuses on executing administrative and coordination functions efficiently, allowing program leads to concentrate on strategic decision-making and stakeholder engagement.
This position supports the operational and strategic effectiveness of the Hunting and Fishing Branch (HFB) within the Ministry, which is responsible for the allocation, licensing, and conservation of Alberta’s game species and fish. This includes managing commercial and recreational harvests, evaluating licensing frameworks and fees, and facilitating stakeholder outreach as well as education.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Coordinating and supporting stakeholder engagement activities, including planning, logistics, and communication. Responds to public and Ministerial inquiries and drafts correspondence on behalf of the branch.
- Providing administrative support for branch grant programs, ensuring deliverables are tracked and compliance is maintained. Works with grant administrators and uses government systems.
- Contributing to the development of proposals, policies, and engagement strategies to address wildlife and fisheries issues. Prepares reports, briefings, and supports project planning and execution.
- Assisting with office and equipment needs, procurement, and infrastructure planning for the branch. Maintains inventories, supports uniform distribution, and liaises with accommodations as needed.
- Developing and maintaining issue summaries for executive use and communication. Supports timely responses to FOIP (Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy) requests and Action Requests (ARs), ensuring compliance with standards.
- Supporting the review and transition of non-ReLM (Recreational Licensing Management) processes to the branch. Conducts workload assessments and supports improvements to licensing functions.
- Supporting delivery and tracking of wildlife conflict mitigation equipment across the province. Coordinates logistics in collaboration with the program specialist.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirement:
University graduation in a science-related field; no prior experience required.
Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency based on one year of education for one year of experience or vice versa.

- Understanding of government operations including policy engagement and political acumen.
- Experience working effectively in teams, ability to lead or contribute to project teams and committees to achieve objectives.
- Proven ability to produce clear written reports and deliver presentations that engage diverse audiences supported by positive feedback or metrics.
- Documented experience using various engagement tools to collaborate with stakeholders and increasing participation or consensus.
- Evidence of applying research and critical thinking to solve problems and make decisions resulting in measurable improvements.

This is a full-time temporary (2 years) position located in Edmonton.
Monday – Friday, 7.25 hours per day, 36.25 hours per week.
