Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Highway Operations, the Highway Maintenance Yard Coordinator provides expert technical advice to the Executive Director Technical Standards Branch, the Director of Highway Operations, and Regional staff with respect to the department’s highway maintenance yard assets.
The position:
- Possesses a robust skill set in property and building management showcasing a proficiency in asset management.
- Encompasses an ability to effectively oversee and optimize property assets.
- Identifies, prioritizes, and oversees building maintenance, repairs, and improvements.
- Provides extensive project administration duties including consultant selection, consultant management, and governance of project cost and schedule.
- Assists with the development of departmental standards. Collaborates with internal/external stakeholders to ensure that the department's requirements provide clear direction to industry.
- Collaborates with other government departments and external stakeholders, including industry, to establish productive working relationships.
- Develops and maintains an asset management lens to the highway maintenance yard portfolio.
- Provides technical advice regarding lease/sales agreement issues to regional operational staff.
- Assists with the coordination of various inspections and audits (i.e., property, environmental, structural, etc.). Discussion of annual audit results to management is required.
- Working within the Technical Standards Branch - create asset management approach for highway maintenance yards.
- Coordinates work activity that is considered highly complex in nature. Database management is required to maintain high volumes of information.
- The position has a high degree of independence with respect to assessment and decision-making. Potential to influence/impact strategic operational decisions.
- Requires a working understanding of the department’s highway maintenance contracts as it pertains the highway maintenance yards and to provide contract management support.

Qualifications

Required:
- A related two-year diploma (e.g., Business, Science/Environmental, Building Management, or Engineering), supplemented by at least seven (7) years of related experience.
- A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent.
Assets:
- Experience in championing and implementing innovative solutions.
- Familiarity with highway maintenance, building maintenance or highway network infrastructure.
- Strong communication skills, with demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders while focusing on client needs.
- Understanding of the environmental assessment and environmental management with respect to commercial properties or yard sites.
- Knowledge of the department’s highway maintenance contracts and the department’s standard specifications for highway maintenance.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
