The Ministry of Forestry and Parks stewards Alberta’s parks, public lands and forests to provide environmental, economic and social benefits for current and future generations. The ministry protects Alberta’s forest resources through effective and efficient wildfire management, sustainable forest management and maintenance of forest health. The ministry works with Albertans, other governments, Indigenous communities, non-profit and voluntary organizations as well as the private sector to grow the visitor economy and maximize the benefits of Alberta Crown lands including forests, parks and rangelands.
The Corporate Strategic Services Branch provides strategic leadership, direction and coordination of a broad range of planning, policy and administrative services for the department. The Governance and Legislative Services unit is responsible for the development and coordination of strategic policy decisions moving through the ministry and government’s decision-making process as well as coordinating the development of legislative and regulatory amendments that align with approved policy direction. The unit is also responsible for providing advice and support services for the effective oversight and governance of ministry agencies.
Role Responsibilities
Join a team that drives clarity, collaboration and strategy across the Ministry of Forestry and Parks. The Corporate Strategic Services Branch leads the ministry’s strategic planning, policy development and corporate coordination efforts. We are seeking a Governance and Legislative Coordinator to play a pivotal role in aligning legislative, governance and policy priorities across the organization.
Reporting to the Director, Governance and Legislative Services, you will be instrumental in coordinating Forestry and Park’s legislative agenda and governance activities, ensuring they move efficiently through government’s decision-making processes. You will collaborate closely with program areas, legal counsel and senior officials to prepare and manage materials for act and regulation amendments, Cabinet and committee submissions as well as other key deliverables.
Your work will include researching and drafting high-quality briefing notes, reports and presentations to support informed decision-making as well as seamless legislative coordination. You will also assist in developing agency governance frameworks, managing board recruitment and appointments as well as tracking timelines and expiry dates for key files.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the preparation and tracking of legislative and governance items across the ministry.
- Support the development and implementation of acts, regulations, and related Cabinet or committee materials in collaboration with program areas, legal teams and the Policy Coordination Office.
- Provide accurate and timely advice and guidance to program areas on processes, timelines and approvals related to legislative as well as agency governance.
- Prepare and review briefing notes, memoranda to Cabinet, ministerial orders and Orders-in-Council to ensure accuracy, consistency and compliance with government standards.
- Lead the forward planning and monitoring of legislative, policy and appointment items to support ministry priorities.
- Build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with stakeholders across the ministry and government.
- Conduct research and provide policy analysis while supporting other strategic initiatives led by the Director and the Corporate Strategic Services Branch.

Qualifications
Minimum Recruitment Standard:
- University graduation (4 years) in a related field, plus 2 years of progressive responsibility and directly related experience, or
- Diploma in related field plus 4 years of related experience.
- Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year education.

- Demonstrated experience in policy development, legislative coordination, and governance support.
- Exceptional communication, relationship management, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
- Strong research, analytical and strategic thinking skills to inform sound recommendations.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate complex projects, and meet deadlines in dynamic environments.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint).

Notes
This is a full time permanent position in Edmonton with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday.
