Role Responsibilities
We are looking for a skilled technologist to fill a unique position that makes an impact on Alberta’s environmental landscape.
As part of the Provincial Geospatial Centre (PGC) and reporting to the Data Distribution Unit Lead, you would be responsible for preparing and managing spatial data, as well as other geospatial requests as requested by PGC clients in support of departmental business priorities and programs. You would provide timely and accurate technical support to facilitate program delivery in various areas of the department as well as identified high priority government programs external to the department. You would assist in supporting to the goals and objectives of Alberta's commitment to sustainable resources and environmental management by ensuring public lands and natural resources are managed to sustain their economic, social and environmental values and benefits for future generations.
The primary nature of the work requires the application of principles of Geographic Information systems (GIS) technology, geoprocessing, and data management. You will have the ability to function independently with minimal supervision, as well as within a team setting, work within defined and often constrained timelines, and communicate clearly with clients, colleagues, and co-workers.
This position offers considerable scope for originality and individual initiative.
Your responsibilities would include:
• Providing data management for internal government clients, ensuring all parties have current/common information to assist with sound resource management decision making.
• Maintaining and upholding the understanding of GIS technology within the client/user community to ensure the up-to-date and efficient application of GIS resources.
• Providing insight/guidance into project flow and possible avenues for completion to assist clients with decision making.

Qualifications
Two-year technical diploma in GIS, Natural Sciences, Geospatial or a related field plus two years related experience; or equivalent as described below.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
• 1 year of experience for 1 year education.
Required:
• Excellent strategic thinking skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills including ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and networks with internal and external stakeholders.
• Communication and collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Analytical skills: Proficiency in analyzing data and information to make informed decisions and recommendations.
• Organizational skills and attention to detail.
Assets:
• Demonstrated experience in the use of GIS software, primarily ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, and Portal environments.
• Working knowledge of MS Office, GPS/GNSS software, and web-based GIS Platforms.

This position is a full-time permanent position located in Edmonton.
This position works Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM-4:30 PM, 36.25 hours a week.
