Role Responsibilities

The GIS Analyst is part of an innovative technical team responsible for performing Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping duties as it relates to Government of Alberta (GoA) owned lands and facilities. The position is also responsible for drafting and maintaining Computer Aided Design (CAD) related record drawings pertaining to GoA properties. 
 

The position functions as a specialist in researching, resolving and/or determining land mapping issues as it relates to legal descriptions and extent of obligation. Responsibilities also include responding to changes in legislation and orders in council as they relate to large assembly projects by keeping mapping current and updating the Transportation and Utility Corridor (TUC) boundaries and lands. The GIS Analyst works with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including other ministry staff, partnering ministries, and contractors.
 

The primary responsibilities for the GIS Analyst include, but are not limited to:
 

  • Perform advanced GIS mapping and CAD drafting for Infrastructure owned and administered properties.
  • Conduct scheduled reviews of drawings, site plans, and associated data for all GoA building and land inventories.
  • Update drawings as information is provided by Divisional project managers and department property managers in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Review land descriptions for new land titles prepared by Land Planning prior to submission for registration
  • Research and interpret legal land descriptions and titles in response to departmental action requests
  • Identify, review and test future enhancements of related applications, processes, procedures, and standards
  • Support the promotion of department's GIS capabilities for decision making support.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Two-year technical diploma in a related field plus 2 years of experience


Equivalency: Directly related education experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education


Assets:

  • Understanding of departmental information systems and technologies; such as BLIMS, AIMS databases
  • Knowledge and familiarity using ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Server
  • Knowledge and familiarity with functionalities of FME Form and FME Flow 2022
  • Knowledge and familiarity using AutoCAD Map 3D 2024 and Raster Design 2024
  • Knowledge and familiarity with field data collection practices utilizing GNSS receiver functionalities
  • Knowledge and familiarity using Esri Field maps
  • GIS portfolio submission of related work projects is encouraged (website or digital copy).
