The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA), under the authority of the Emergency Management Act, leads the coordination and co-operation of all organizations involved in emergencies and disasters. This includes emergency and disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.
The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) is accountable and responsible to the GoA, to Albertans, to their communities, and to industry for the protection of people, their property, and the environment from the effects of emergency events. Alberta relies on a decentralized “system” for managing the various types of emergency events that occur every year. The AEMA accomplishes its objectives by leading the co-ordination, collaboration and co-operation between all entities involved in prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery activities within this diverse system.

Role Responsibilities
Help strengthen Alberta’s resilience. In this role, you will provide technical GIS analysis and business intelligence that directly supports disaster recovery across the province. You will maintain and analyze geospatial and financial assistance data, generate insights on historical and emerging disaster impacts, and develop tools that enhance evidence‑based decision‑making. You will also support the Recovery Branch with data visualization, reporting, and technical coordination to ensure Albertans, communities, and industry receive timely, accurate, and effective recovery support.
• Provide technical GIS analysis to support disaster recovery, resilience initiatives, and financial assistance programs.
• Maintain, analyze, and visualize geospatial and program data related to historical and current disaster impacts.
• Develop and enhance business intelligence tools, dashboards, and reporting practices for the Recovery Branch.
• Produce data visualizations, infographics, and analytical products for internal and external partners.
• Support IT related coordination, data maintenance, and technical troubleshooting within the Business Operational Supports unit.
• Identify trends, generate insights, and contribute to evidence based decision making across recovery and resilience activities.
• Assist with the development of business standards, best practices, and training materials that strengthen branch operations.

Qualifications
Required: University degree in Geography, Geomatics, Computer Science, Data Science or related, PLUS 2 years related experience or equivalent as described
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience, or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
For Example:
Related 1 year certificate PLUS a minimum 5 years of experience
Related 2-year diploma PLUS a minimum 4 years of experience
Related minimum 6years of experience
The successful candidate MUST also have:
• Experience supporting GIS, spatial data, or business intelligence projects.
• Ability to develop and maintain GIS tools, dashboards, and spatial applications.
• Skill in spatial analysis, geospatial data management, and data quality practices.
• Experience creating data visualizations, reports, and automated workflows
• Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, or similar visualization tools.
• Experience with Power Platform tools (Power Automate, Power Apps).
• Ability to document workflows and support training for non technical users.
• Strong problem solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to travel with short notice for extended periods of time (i.e. be deployed to support an incident). Additionally, you must be able to work non-standard hours with short notice for extended periods of time (i.e. weekends, evenings, nights, holidays etc. at times of incident).
Assets
• GIS, data analytics, or project coordination certifications.
• Public sector experience, especially in emergency management or disaster recovery.
• Knowledge of data warehousing, ETL processes, or cloud geospatial services.
• Experience with cross jurisdictional data initiatives or open data platforms.
• Understanding of disaster recovery programs, damage assessment, or resilience planning.
