As the Ministry of Forestry and Parks we are responsible for fostering Alberta’s environmentally responsible forest management practices, including management of wildfires.  We preserve our provincial parks for the recreation and enjoyment of Albertans. As well as enabling access to public lands for recreational and commercial purposes while prioritizing conservation. Forestry and Parks also manages public lands and balances sustainable rangelands and grazing leases for Alberta producers.

 

The Forestry Division, within the Ministry of Forestry and Parks, works to enhance the economic, environmental, and social contributions of our forests and forested lands to Albertans. Role Responsibilities

The Forestry Business Analyst leads the development of plans, processes, and data management systems to support performance excellence within the Forestry Division's branches. Leveraging research findings, the role promotes adaptive management and continuous improvement to achieve defined outcomes.

 

Responsibilities includes but not limited to:

 

  • Leading, consulting, and advising on the development and implementation of business processes, frameworks, data systems, and tools to support evidence-informed decision-making.
  • Providing technical guidance and support to teams in developing evaluation plans and outcome measurement frameworks, recommending effective strategies for program and policy evaluation.
  • Leveraging the data held within ministry, develop informative reporting to support business, including executive level reporting.
  • Reviewing reports and recommending adjustments to operational policies, procedures, best practices, strategies, and programs based on evaluation findings.
  • Facilitating research projects and pilot initiatives to demonstrate the impact of proposed innovations on systems, programs, and services.
  • Engaging, educating, and supporting staff in best practices and outcomes-focused planning, while mentoring others.
  • Cultivating relationships and building trust with leaders and staff in the Forestry Business Services section to facilitate change management and innovation adoption.
  • Providing input on measures for strategic initiatives, reporting outcomes to key audiences.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirement Standard:

University graduation (4 years) in a related field such as Business, Economics, Management, Data Analytics plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience in process optimization, program planning, delivery, performance measurement, and reporting or;
Diploma( 2 year) in related field plus 6 years of related experience.

 

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year education.

Asset:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in implementing evaluation and research methods, including survey design, applied statistics, and both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.
  • Proficiency in database design, administration, and reporting, with hands-on experience using Microsoft Excel, SharePoint, MS Teams, MS Forms, MS Lists, and PowerBI.
  • Skilled in process design and automation, with practical experience using tools such as Microsoft Visio and Microsoft PowerAutomate.
  • Solid background in project management, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and policy development processes.
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience in program planning, delivery, and evaluation principles and practices.

Notes

This is a full time permanent position in Edmonton, with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday.
