Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Budget Officer, you will be responsible for the preparation and processing of the Elections Alberta invoices and financial accounting transactions, conducting necessary reconciliation's, including investigation and resolution of differences.  You will aide in contract and procurement processes and tracking and reconciling contract payments as required.  You will be responsible for timely processing of payments to election and enumeration staff and vendors and assist with payroll processing when required. You will assist in reviewing departmental financial policies and procedures, recommending changes where necessary. You will also assist with training of election workers and RO office staff on payroll and expense management and policies.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Business or Commerce majoring in accounting or a related field plus minimum of 2 years related experience or equivalent.
  • Canadian CPA or a desire to obtain a Canadian CPA is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Financial Statements preparation is considered an asset
  • Experience in accounting standards including generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Advanced skills in technology and software such as 1GX, Payworks, Power BI, Excel, Word and computerized accounting and database programs.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates organizational skills and the ability to plan and prioritize daily activities to meet business objectives.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and willingness to discover, develop and adopt new and innovative methods and technologies.
  • Ability to work independently, apply professional judgement and make decisions as appropriate, while recognizing when issues need to be taken to the Senior Budget Officer for resolution.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with a diverse group of stakeholders in a non-partisan manner.
