Agriculture and Irrigation (AGI) strengthens Alberta's economy by enabling growth, diversification, sustainability and innovation in the agriculture sector. The ministry also works to ensure that Alberta's rural communities are able to participate in and benefit from the province's economic growth and prosperity including agriculture and agri-food business, trade and economics and farm business management programs. Through these actions, the ministry provides key support elements to assist with enhancing economic development and the well-being of the agriculture sector, rural communities and municipalities. This includes animal health policies and programs, disease surveillance and response, inspection and investigation services.

Role
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Trade, Investment and Food Safety Division, the Executive Director, Trade, Economics and Data Analytics will support the agriculture and agri-food sectors in Alberta by leading staff in the management of intergovernmental relationships and agreements, understanding trade, transportation and labour policy challenges and opportunities as well as analyzing markets and economic trends.
The Executive Director leads a team that provides unbiased and reliable information to Alberta producers, processors and stakeholders. This information is used to make better operating decisions by all players in the Alberta agriculture and agri-food processing economy. This information supports fair and efficient functioning of the markets.
Qualifications
As the successful candidate, you have significant senior leadership experience with demonstrated strengths in strategic planning, policy and program analysis. You have extensive knowledge of competitiveness and market access issues, industry export needs and capabilities, trade, business and cultural practices of key international export markets as well as a thorough understanding of Alberta’s agriculture sector and agri-food industry.
Throughout your career, you demonstrated a high degree of political acumen and conflict resolution skills through your work with diverse groups of stakeholders. You are also known for your innovation and strengths in leading through continuous improvement. A key to your success in this role will be your ability to make highly technical information more accessible to the general public, stakeholders and senior leadership/elected officials.
A master’s degree in economics or related field is preferred. A relevant combination of post-secondary education, training and experience is required.
Salary
$5,082.46 - $6,679.30 bi-weekly ($132,652 - $174,329 yearly)
