Role

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Utilities, you will provide strategic leadership and direction for the coordination of the government’s approach to rural utilities policy and programs as well as key strategic initiatives which includes working with multiple ministries on multiple complex priorities. 

 

In this role, you will provide oversight to major policy and program initiatives such as the integration of large load data centres into the Alberta electric system, how to ensure the long term sustainability and reliability of the Alberta power grid and the on-going policy and legislative initiatives that directly affect the rural utilities industry and ministry clients. Additionally, Affordability and Utilities is responsible for the overall policy development, planning and direction of a variety of programs, services, functions and activities primarily related to the rural electrical, natural gas and water utility industry and serves as Rural Utilities' primary contact with the rural utility industry.

 

You will provide strategic advice and guidance to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Deputy Minister and Executive Team to inform decision-making and direction setting that aligns with ministry and Government of Alberta (GoA) priorities. You will work collaboratively with senior and executive management across the division, ministry and across the GoA to enable and foster integrated communication and collaborative efforts. 

 

 

Qualifications

Your background includes related senior management experience with strengths in cross-ministry deliverables, strategic foresight, people leadership, policy analysis, issue and resource management. You are recognized for your ability to build collaborative relationships, resolve complex issues and provide sound analytical and technical advice. With your advanced integrative thinking and solutions-focused leadership skills, you will work closely with stakeholders to develop strategic partnerships, identify opportunities for collaboration, and balance needs in facilitating key policy and program initiatives. Knowledge of government decision making and governance related to Agencies, Boards and Commission and legislated requirements is advantageous.

 

Your experience navigating politically sensitive environments, where urgent, competing priorities demand innovative, precedent-setting solutions have honed your political acumen and strategic leadership will also be critical to your success in this role.

 

Undergraduate and graduate degrees are preferred.

 

 

Salary

$5,234.94 - $6,879.68 bi-weekly ($136,631 - $179,559 yearly)
