Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Seniors Division, Assisted Living and Social Services, the Executive Director, provides strategic leadership and program oversight to the administration of seniors programs and services under the legislation for senior services. 

 

The Executive Director ensures the accurate and timely delivery of financial assistance programs and community services across Alberta. With more than 875,000 seniors in the province the Executive Director plays a critical role in supporting our seniors in meeting their financial needs, community supports and aging with dignity. Responsibility assigned to the Executive Director roles including the timely and thoughtful delivery of services to seniors and their caregivers. The position provides strategic advice to senior ministry officials on issues, programs, and initiatives aligned with branch priorities. This includes leading the review and continuous improvement of income-based seniors’ benefits to ensure responsiveness to evolving client needs. In addition, the Executive Director oversees key program support functions for the Division, including financial services, client payment management, and program records management.

 

The Executive Director builds and sustains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support effective, integrated planning and delivery of programs, services, and benefits. Working collaboratively across the Division, Ministry, and other government departments, the role ensures alignment with broader Government of Alberta strategic priorities and supports seniors in living independently and participating fully in their communities. This position requires comprehensive knowledge of the complex factors influencing seniors’ financial needs and program access, as well as a strong understanding of income support frameworks. The Executive Director ensures seniors can effectively access and benefit from available programs, enabling informed decision-making and supporting financial stability and independence for Alberta Seniors.

 

 

Qualifications

You are a highly successful and credible leader with significant senior management expertise in a complex organization, preferably within government or public sector service delivery, and a proven ability to provide strategic leadership and deliver results in high‑volume program environments. You bring demonstrated success leading operations, policy development, and implementation, supported by strong financial acumen and a track record of sound stewardship of public resources. You possess strong knowledge of social programs, relevant legislation, and government processes, along with well‑developed political acumen to effectively advise senior leaders and navigate complex stakeholder environments. You build collaborative relationships, influence at senior levels, and drive innovation and change. Experience with income support programs or seniors’ services is considered an asset. A related university degree (e.g. Human Services, Policy, or Business Administration) combined with 3 - 5 years of senior leadership experience.

 

This competition may be used to fill similar or lower classification positions as they become available in the Senior Division.

 

 

Salary

$5,896.65 - $7,749.28 bi-weekly ($153,902 - $202,256 yearly)
