Role
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM), Traffic Safety Services (TSS), the Executive Director, Priority Initiatives and Integration is responsible for providing advice and leadership on emerging traffic safety policy and program matters and approach to achieving TSS’s aspiration to be a global leader in traffic safety. The role directs and oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of priority and emerging issues and major projects that require integration with other government departments. The Executive Director leads and participates in cross-government and Minister priorities to deliver on the government’s agenda. The role is also responsible for developing an innovative and integrated organizational culture that is responsive to government and to Albertans views and expectations.
The Executive Director plays a key role in fostering strong relationships across multiple stakeholders, ensuring that traffic safety priorities are effectively coordinated and integrated within the broader government framework. This includes providing strategic direction and coordination for the implementation of high-impact initiatives that align with the government’s long-term vision. By leveraging a comprehensive understanding of traffic safety challenges and opportunities, the Executive Director will drive innovative solutions within the division. Additionally, the role involves championing a culture of collaboration, accountability, and responsiveness, ensuring that policies and programs reflect both the evolving needs of Albertans and the priorities set by the provincial government.
This position requires strategic leadership, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and well-developed collaboration skills. Agility, clear communication, diplomacy, and political and industry acumen are vital for managing high-profile challenges.
Qualifications
Success in this role calls for a progressive leader with extensive related senior management experience in an executive environment. You bring experience leading within a large, complex organization, ideally in the public sector, and are recognized for your well-honed senior stakeholder management expertise. Demonstrated ability to manage centralized delivery of complex service and financial benefits is required. You bring a strong systems thinking lens, solid understanding of policy and legislation, and issues management expertise. You have demonstrated skills in managing a large number of multiple related but distinct programs, and extensive interaction with a wide range of diverse stakeholder groups, with competing needs/interests. Given the cross‑government nature of the work, you should have a strong understanding of core Government of Alberta processes, including legislative and policy development timelines, and enterprise planning and reporting requirements. Your exceptional communication skills and influence will ensure strong networks and relationships with complex stakeholders and partners. Cross-ministry experience is also essential, and your exceptional interpersonal skills will support your ability to work effectively with diverse, complex stakeholders to manage broad expectations and interests. You have a high degree of political acuity, are agile, and solutions oriented. A respected leader with experience leading staff, you are committed to building strong lines of communication and trust as well as empowering your teams to achieve results through performance excellence. A Bachelor Degree (4 year program) is required.
Salary
$5,758.44 - $7,567.55 bi-weekly ($150,295.28 to $197,515.67 annually)

This is a temporary opportunity, up to 36 months. This is a temporary but highly impactful executive role. The position supports the department by providing executive oversight to expanded ministerial priority initiatives while ensuring that the modernization agenda, priority initiatives have dedicated executive leadership.
