Assisted Living and Social Services provides supports for seniors, families and communities, and helps Albertans access disability services, financial supports, services for the homeless, continuing care services, and other social-based programs. This ministry supports Albertans through a person-centred, integrated service delivery model that recognizes the unique circumstances, experiences and strengths of individuals and families.

Role
The Assisted Living Policy and Legislation Branch undertakes research, policy analysis and development and planning activities on issues relevant to the health transformation related to assisted living. The Branch also collaborates with other ministries, level of government and community stakeholders to ensure any impacts to Assisted Living Alberta are considered in government initiatives and strategies.
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Assistant Living Alberta Strategic Services, the Executive Director, Policy and Legislation oversees activities involving strategy and proactive policy analysis within the Assisted Living Alberta branch. As the Executive Director, your leadership will inform the implementation of strategic frameworks to set government direction, providing strategic advice to Senior Officials and elected officials and development of programs for Assisted Living Alberta. You will provide guidance responsible for policy research, analytics and evaluation initiatives ensuring value addition and alignment to ministry’s goals and priorities. Overseeing a team of senior managers and professional staff, you will guide the achievement of objectives related to ministry goals, build relationships and key alliances with other governments and other stakeholders, and support a collaborative and integrated approach to achieving the government’s intergovernmental goals and priorities specific to the assisted living sector.
Qualifications
Your background includes senior leadership with extensive experience in policy development and legislative environments. Skilled in developing evidence-based policy recommendations, coordinating subject matter experts, and aligning initiatives with government priorities. Proven ability to navigate complex challenges, lead cross-functional teams, and foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders. You have comprehensive understanding of citizen-centered policy models and issues related to legislative frameworks, regulatory compliance, and program delivery. Familiarity with Government of Alberta decision-making processes, including policy development cycles and legislative agendas would be considered a strong asset.
Your exceptional communication skills enable you to translate complex, conceptual ideas into practical, operational solutions that align with government priorities. Combined with strong political acumen and the ability to navigate ambiguity and complexity, you bring interpersonal and influencing skills that foster innovation, build consensus, and motivate stakeholders to embrace and implement new policy concepts.
A related degree in public administration, political science or public policy is preferred.
Salary
$5,738.44 - $7,567.65 bi-weekly ($150,295.28 – $197,515.67 yearly)
Notes
The Executive Director position is temporary in nature and expected to end on August 31, 2027.
