The Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services (“PSES”) has significant oversight and involvement in the public security and emergency services through its various divisions and operations. The department is responsible for the administration of law enforcement, correctional services, policing and police oversight and public safety. The Ministry supports crime prevention and restorative justice programs, as well as programs and services to support victims of crime including those affected by domestic violence and human trafficking. The Ministry also coordinates large scale emergency and disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery programs and initiatives through the Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA).

Role
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategy, Support and Integrated Initiatives, the Executive Director, Modernization, Information Management Technology, and Research provides strategic leadership on key innovation initiatives across the department. This role leads IT and data management functions, guiding the Executive Team in strategic and tactical planning, development, and oversight of the Ministry’s information systems. The Executive Director drives complex system transformations, digitization efforts, and business intelligence initiatives, while managing a diverse team of directors, managers, professionals, contractors, and administrative staff. A key aspect of the role is fostering strong relationships between Technology & Innovation and the broader Ministry.
The Executive Director leads modernization and digitization of service delivery to enhance client and partner experiences, reduce administrative burden, and support program sustainability. Responsibilities include continuous improvement of IT systems, legacy system strategy, system coordination, and quality assurance. The role also oversees research and analytic functions that support government and departmental priorities, delivering timely data products, supporting policy and program development, and building analytics capacity across the Ministry.
Qualifications
As Executive Director, you bring extensive senior management experience and a proven ability to lead complex, multi-site teams in a dynamic environment. Your leadership fosters a culture of innovation, service excellence, and continuous improvement. You are a strategic thinker and sound decision-maker, with the influence and political acumen needed to navigate sensitive issues and drive results. You have a strong track record in managing centralized service delivery and developing strategy, ideally within an information management and technology environment within a government setting. Experience in program implementation, project management, and stakeholder engagement is essential, along with a demonstrated ability to build partnerships and facilitate integrated solutions across diverse perspectives. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required, along with seven years of management experience.
Salary
$5,234.94- $6,879.68 bi-weekly ($136,631 - $179,559 yearly)
