The Ministry of Justice works to ensure a fair and accessible justice system for all Albertans. Role
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategy, Support and Integrated Initiatives Division (SSII), the Executive Director, Governance and Intergovernmental Relations will take a leadership role in the medical assistance in dying (MAID) review and policy development, aiming to ensure there is appropriate oversight in place to protect vulnerable Albertans. This position will also be responsible for the Alberta Justice intergovernmental and international relations file, inclusive of the federal/provincial/territorial portfolio.
The Executive Director will manage special projects and lead strategic initiatives across the ministry, including red tape reduction initiatives to make the justice system more accessible. Supporting Minister and Premier priorities, this position will initiate and engage with cross-ministry working groups to collaborate on shared deliverables.
You will provide strategic advice and recommendations to senior leadership to inform decision-making, as well as demonstrate the ability to oversee complex project implementation with cross-ministry partners and stakeholders. As a strong communicator, you will enable and foster an integrated approach and collaborative style and have an ability to manage multiple facets including project planning, management, implementation and reporting to keep things in alignment with the department’s priorities. You will have experience leading strong teams accountable for results and demonstrate an understanding of government and department processes and priorities.
Qualifications
Your background includes extensive related senior management experience with strengths in briefing at senior levels, project management and complex stakeholder management. You are a recognized leader who is agile, politically astute, with thorough knowledge of policy development, legislation and stakeholder management. You are highly skilled in building relationships and influencing decisions, while balancing the needs and interests of diverse stakeholders and cross ministry clients. Your excellent communication skills will be essential to your success in this role A bachelor’s degree combined with related experience in the government sector is preferred; a master’s degree would be an asset.
Salary
$5,234.94- $6,879.68 bi-weekly ($136,631 - $179,559 yearly)
