The Ministry of Executive Council is responsible for coordinating and supporting the executive arm of government: the Cabinet (also known as Executive Council) and its committees.  Executive Council ensures effective strategic planning and coordinated policy development across government, engagement of Albertans and the broader global community, and the promotion of a vibrant and innovative public service.  It ensures outcomes are achieved by supporting strategic planning, coordinated policy development and informed decision-making for the Government of Alberta, and helps ministries communicate and engage with Albertans.

Role

Reporting to the Deputy Minister (DM), Operations you will be the main point of contact for the Deputy Minister's Office (DMO) and act as the liaison and key resource for strategic support, advice and assistance within the Operations team and Executive Council, other ministry DMOs and the Chief Operating Officer (COO) network and their offices. As a trusted advisor to the DM, you will contribute to the overall planning, strategic direction and operational functions by providing the interface from the DMO, with enterprise COO offices, and the DM Executive Council Office (DMECO). Your success in the role will be demonstrated through effective leadership ensuring Executive Council initiatives align with government priorities. Experience leading complex files end‑to‑end and exercising strategic judgment under pressure will be critical to the ongoing success of this office. You play a pivotal role in ministry and enterprise priority and initiative synchronization, managing high profile/sensitive issues, and extensive interaction with industry and external service providers.

 

 

Qualifications

Success in this role calls for a progressive leader with a background including significant related senior management leadership experience in an executive environment. You bring a strong systems thinking lens, an understanding of policy and legislation, as well as issues management to the role. You have demonstrated skills in managing a large number of multiple related but distinct programs, sustained intensity of high profile/sensitive issues, and extensive interaction with a wide range of diverse stakeholder groups, external service providers, and industry players, with competing needs/interests. Given the cross‑government nature of the work, you should have a strong understanding of core Government of Alberta processes, including budgeting and forecasting cycles, Treasury Board and Cabinet processes, legislative and policy development timelines,  and enterprise planning and reporting requirements. Your exceptional communication skills and influence will ensure strong networks and relationships with complex stakeholders and partners. This role requires someone who can anticipate how these processes intersect with major initiatives and ensure work remains aligned and executable across ministries. Cross-ministry experience is essential, and procurement knowledge would be an asset. Your exceptional interpersonal skills will support your ability to work effectively with diverse, complex stakeholders to manage broad expectations and interests. You have demonstrated skills and ability to collaborate and influence others across multiple areas without direct authority. You have a high degree of political acuity, are agile, and solutions oriented. A respected leader with experience leading staff, you are committed to building strong lines of communication and trust as well as empowering your teams to achieve results through performance excellence. Related post-secondary education is required.

 

 

Salary

$5,758.44 - $7,567.65 bi-weekly ($150,295.28 to $197,515.67 annually)
