The Ministry of Executive Council is responsible for coordinating and supporting the executive arm of government: the Cabinet (also known as Executive Council) and its committees. Executive Council ensures effective strategic planning and coordinated policy development across government, engagement of Albertans and the broader global community, and the promotion of a vibrant and innovative public service. Role
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Executive Operations (ADM), the Executive Director, Enterprise Strategies and Initiatives (Executive Director) is central to aligning the Deputy Minister of Executive Council’s Office (DMECO) operations with the government's strategic direction and enabling high-impact decision-making at the most senior levels. In this role, you will influence high-level decision-making across Executive Council, ministries, and external stakeholders. Mobilizing resources, contributing to cross-ministry coordination, and providing strategic oversight of initiatives that address complex, systemic challenges and advance the Deputy Minister's priorities.
The Department of Executive Council supports the Premier, Cabinet and government ministries in implementing and communicating the government's agenda and ensures Alberta's interests are advanced across Canada and internationally.
The Executive Director provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and executive counsel to the Deputy Minister of Executive Council and Head of the Alberta Public Service (Deputy Minister) and the ADM ensuring the effective coordination and execution of department and government-wide priorities.
As the Executive Director, you will ensure seamless integration of executive scheduling, briefing, correspondence, and strategic communications. You will lead the development of proactive issues management, and integrated governance processes that support timely, informed, and coordinated responses to emerging priorities.
As a member of the department's Executive Team, you will contribute to enterprise-wide leadership, shaping strategic direction, identifying cross-cutting risks and opportunities, and leading/supporting the implementation of priority initiatives. You will also provide leadership within the Executive Operations Network, fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and alignment of executive operations across government.
Through sound judgment, strategic foresight, and a deep understanding of the public sector environment, you will play a pivotal role in shaping departmental direction, enhancing operational excellence, and contributing to the achievement of government priorities at the highest levels.
Qualifications
Your background includes extensive experience in cross-functional ministry work, complemented by progressively responsible roles in public sector issues management, and experience managing complex ministry challenges. You are adept at navigating multifaceted relationships with senior stakeholders across diverse sectors. Recognized for fostering collaboration and leading effectively through complexity, you consistently deliver results while driving strategic initiatives, empowering teams, and enabling meaningful organizational change. Your political acumen, operational agility, and strong relationship management skills enable you to operate confidently in dynamic environments and deliver results aligned with the organization’s broader mandate.
A degree in a related discipline and/or experience in cross-functional ministry work is considered an asset. Training in mediation or conflict resolution is also an asset.
Salary
$5,758.44 - $7,567.65 bi-weekly ($150,295.28 to $197,515.67 / annually)
