Role

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Court and Justice Services (CJS) Division, the Executive Director, Court Policy, Legislation & Innovation provides strategic leadership across several functional areas that support effective division operations. The CJS Division delivers a full range of resolution services to Albertans and provides court administration support to the Alberta Courts, including the Court of Justice, Court of King’s Bench, and the Court of Appeal. CJS is dedicated to delivering innovative, accessible, and accountable court and justice services that help Albertans resolve their legal matters fairly and effectively, while preserving the independence of the courts.

 

The Executive Director builds strong internal and external networks across the department, the Government of Alberta, the courts, and justice sector partners to advance the division’s work. The role provides strategic advice and recommendations to the ADM, CJS branches, other government departments, and external stakeholders on matters impacting division priorities. The Executive Director also serves as a key member of the division’s Executive Team. This role requires a high level of political acumen and an understanding of the role of the independent courts within the justice system.

 

 

Qualifications

You are a collaborative leader with a strong record in guiding complex policy development and providing strategic advice.  You excel at developing and advancing a comprehensive court and justice services policy agenda that aligns with the division’s mandate. You understand the issues affecting court administration, possess solid knowledge of court processes, and have demonstrated success building partnerships across government. As a progressive leader, you drive organizational change, build capacity, and inspire high performance. Your experience in policy development, planning, business services, and workforce development as it relates to the courts, and your strong financial acumen equip you to oversee strategic supports for the division. Your ability to cultivate relationships with diverse stakeholders, along with a deep understanding of the priorities and operations of Alberta’s Courts, will support your success in this role. A university degree in business administration, finance, public administration or law is required, supported by several years of senior management experience. A master’s degree in business administration is an asset, and experience managing operations in a service-based, judicial, or government environment is preferred.

 

 

Salary

$5,758.44 - $7,567.65 bi-weekly ($150,295.28 to $197,515.67 annually)
