The Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction is building a more resilient and sustainable mental health and addiction care system that can support Albertans getting care when and where they need it, while responding to system-wide challenges, improving recovery outcomes and maintaining fiscal responsibility. To this end, the Ministry has established the Compassionate Intervention Commission, an arms-length, quasi-judicial public body established by the Compassionate Intervention Act. The Commission reports to the Minister of Mental Health and Addiction and operates at arms-length to the Ministry. The Commissioner of the Compassionate Intervention Commission is appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council and serves as the Chair of the Commission, managing and leading the operations of the Commission.
