Communications and Public Engagement (CPE) provides full-service communications, engagement and marketing support to all of government, with expertise in strategic communications planning, issues management, media relations, crisis communications, digital communications, graphic design, advertising, public opinion research, and public engagement. CPE also manages the government’s website, Alberta.ca, and provides correspondence, writing, and event support for the Premier of Alberta. CPE delivers coordinated government-wide communications that provides Albertans with clear, accurate, and relevant government information and ensures easy access to government services.
  
CPE is led by a Deputy Minister, who reports to the Deputy Minister of Executive Council.

Role    
The Executive Director reports to the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) of Ministry Communication Services. This is a leadership role responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight to ensure the effective delivery of core communication services across a portfolio of client departments. You will support the ADM in ensuring that CPE is able to consistently provide service excellence to meet client needs, while addressing surges in workload, managing crisis communications and delivering on priority mandate items. 

 

As the Executive Director of either the social or economic portfolio, you will provide strategic advice to guide the development of programs and initiatives led by CPE. In this role, you will directly lead and support communications directors and their teams. While ensuring a one-government voice and strong collaboration with other portfolio areas, you will oversee and ensure that communication services are client-focused and aligned with government priorities. In addition to the strategic implementation of communication strategies, plans, and policies across assigned ministries, you will work with central communication services to ensure all communications efforts are well-coordinated for maximum results.

 

You will be responsible for the implementation of departmental policies, including the Government of Alberta Communications Policy; Voice, Tone and Style Guide; Election Communication Policy; Alternative Communications Policy; and the Corporate Communications Strategy.

Your senior management experience has distinguished you as a credible leader, modeling values that foster workplace innovation and high-performing teams.

Your well-honed political acumen and agility ensure that you manage sensitive communications and advise on complex issues effectively, while leading a team that is empowered to consistently deliver timely and quality services. 

 

You have a proven ability to meaningfully engage, facilitate dialogue, build community and motivate others to achieve outstanding results. This allows you to establish and maintain strong relationships with internal clients and other stakeholders, including senior leaders.

 

Your comprehensive knowledge of communications principles and practices is foundational to your success, allowing you to provide high-value feedback, advocate for the implementation of best practices and tools and support government-wide communications. 

 

A bachelor’s degree in communications, political science, business administration or other related disciplines is preferred.

 

Salary

$5,234.94 - $6,879.68 bi-weekly ($136,631 - $179,559 annually)

 

Notes

This competition will be used to fill up to two Executive Director positions in Communications and Public Engagement.
