Role
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Child Care Delivery, the Executive Director is directly accountable for providing more than $1 billion to child care programs to support families and early childhood educators, playing an instrumental role in advancing Alberta’s child care affordability goals and strengthening accountability across the system. The Executive Director is also responsible for maintaining financial standards set out in legislation and agreements with the federal government for the distribution of child care grant funding, ensuring strong fiscal oversight, timely payments, and streamlined delivery systems.
This position provides leadership and strategic direction to the Child Care Administration Branch across early learning and child care programs, services, initiatives, and projects throughout the province. Through strategic thinking and results orientation, the position develops and implements policies and programs to ensure the business plan goals and objectives are achieved within the branch. The Executive Director role also requires responsiveness to stakeholder inquiries and provides strategic leadership for maintaining partnerships with public and private sector child care programs, partnerships with other ministries, governments, community and contracted provincial/federal associations, academic institutions, and others, all with the aim of engaging communities and individuals to enhance quality child care and positive outcomes for children and families.
Qualifications
As Executive Director, you will bring significant related senior management experience and well-developed financial acumen with demonstrated experience in financial controls, grants, contracts, procurement, and knowledge of using debt instruments. You also have a successful track record of strengthening programs, enhancing controls, and increasing efficiencies within high profile, multi-stakeholder environments. You are known for successfully leading significant change management activities and driving results with and without positional authority. Knowledge of government decision-making processes is advantageous.
Advanced professional judgment is also required given the politically sensitive nature of information dealt with, and the often-conflicting priorities, perspectives, and requirements of partners and stakeholders. Your highly honed political acumen combined with strategic leadership skills, will be critical to your success.
An undergraduate degree is required, ideally supplemented with a CPA or CIA Designation.
Salary
$5,234.94 - $6,879.68 bi-weekly ($136,631 - $179,559 yearly)
