Role
The Executive Director (ED), Assisted Living Financial Services (ALFS), plays a pivotal role in supporting the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) and Senior Financial Officer (SFO), Corporate Finance and Accountability (CFA), as well as ministry business partners - including divisional heads and program areas - in delivering strong, efficient, and effective financial services between the Department of Assisted Living and Social Services (ALSS) and the provincial health agency, Assisted Living Alberta (ALA).
The ED, ALFS provides strategic direction and coordinates with ALA on the planning and execution of ministry-specific fiscal management activities. These include ALA’s three-year fiscal plan, annual budget, quarterly fiscal updates, monthly and/or quarterly financial reporting, procurement analysis, and related financial operations.
As a senior financial expert, the ED offers strategic guidance and analytical support to ALA on financial matters, working closely with colleagues across the ministry, within ALA, and with other client ministries. The role also oversees ad hoc projects and ensures that ALA’s program and initiative funding requirements are effectively integrated into the Government of Alberta’s multi-year fiscal and business planning processes.
This position reports to the SFO/ADM, CFA, providing strategic support on financial, accounting, and business policy matters. This includes ministry-wide financial and business services administration, as well as assessing the implications of senior management decisions.
Qualifications
Your background will include significant related senior financial management experience in planning, reporting and control functions in a large, complex organization. Your solid financial acumen will enable you to leverage effective financial analysis. You have significant experience managing complex budget issues and providing advice to executive leadership. You have demonstrated capacity to influence critical decisions. You have distinguished yourself as a strategic leader with a reputation for empowering, mentoring, and developing capacity within your teams. Your proven leadership to inspire teams to achieve success is essential.
Exceptional collaboration skills and a systems approach are essential for delivering results on ministry priorities. Communication and change management skills as well as the ability to develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships will be key in balancing varying perspectives in a highly complex and changing business environment. Post-secondary education in a related field is required. A recognized accounting designation is an asset.
Salary
$5,758.44 - $7,567.65 bi-weekly ($150,295 - $197,516 annually)
