Role Responsibilities

If so, we invite you to apply for an exciting opportunity to lead the Servery operations at the Alberta Court of Appeal!
As an Executive Chef, you will oversee the planning, preparation, and service of meals for approximately 40 to 50 patrons while providing leadership and guidance to kitchen staff. You will also play a key role in planning and organizing special events, which may include up to 100 or more attendees.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of kitchen operations, including menu planning, food preparation, plating, and service.
- Design and execute innovative, high-quality menus tailored to dietary needs and preferences.
- Manage kitchen staff: recruit, train, schedule, and ensure compliance with hygiene and safety standards.
- Maintain inventory, order supplies, and control costs while minimizing waste.
- Ensure timely, high-quality meal service and exceptional presentation for daily meals and special functions.
- Monitor and maintain kitchen equipment and cleanliness in accordance with health regulations.
- Establish and manage the Servery budget, track expenses, and reconcile costs.
- Health & Safety: Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, hygiene standards, and occupational health and safety requirements, including maintaining a valid Food Handling Permit and participating in safety programs.
- Administrative Duties: Manage vendor relationships, coordinate procurement of goods and services, submit budget requirements, process invoices, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

Qualifications
Required: Journeyperson level cook certification and 3 years related experience in the methods and procedures used in the preparation and cooking of food, including some supervisory experience.
The following equivalencies will be considered:
- Some high school education and 7 years related cooking experience in a restaurant, institution, camp operation or other related area, including some supervisory experience; or
- Certificate in Cooking and 6 years related experience, including some supervisory experience; or
- Diploma in Cooking and 5 years related experience including some supervisory experience.
Assets
Preference will be given to candidates with the following:
- Working knowledge of the health, safety, and food standards.
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Working knowledge of food preparation methods, nutrition principles, sanitation, and kitchen safety.
- Working knowledge food storage principals and large-scale cooking equipment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook and Word.

Notes
Position Information:
- Position Available: One full-time, permanent position.
- Work Location: Court of Appeal, Law Courts Building, Edmonton, Alberta.
- Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.
- Physical demands: Moderate to heavy work is required when packing/moving groceries, large appliances and tables. Long periods of standing are involved in this position. Work is repetitive in nature (e.g., chopping and slicing).
Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.
