Alberta Infrastructure is responsible for leading the development of the provincial Capital Plan, which addresses the provincial infrastructure needs of Alberta’s population that support key social programs and services and economic development.

Role Responsibilities
The Government of Alberta, Technical Standards and Procurement Branch within Infrastructure is currently looking for an Environmental Engineer to join our busy team in Edmonton. If you are looking for a challenging yet rewarding opportunity, look no further and apply!
Reporting to the Senior Environmental Engineer, the Environmental Engineer manages consultants and contracts for Survey, Environmental Site Assessment and other Environmental Engineering work. The position is responsible for environmental investigation for new, upgraded capital projects and existing owned facilities. The position is also responsible for maintaining and updating the records of Environmental reports.
The Environmental Engineer provides leadership for the safe, efficient, timely and fiscally responsible delivery of the consultants and contractors work. This position is responsible for the selection, assessment, and evaluation of consultants, and ensuring that all their work is reviewed throughout all phases of the project and that the construction/implementation phase of the work is monitored to ensure the work is completed safely and in accordance with departmental requirements, guidelines and specifications.
The primary responsibilities for the Environmental Engineer include, but are not limited to:
- Managing consultants (proposal evaluation, awards, and contracts) to ensure engineering services provided are in accordance with department guidelines, standards and policies.
- Ensuring the department’s technical guidelines, standards, specifications and policies are followed; feedback is given to the supervisor when problems are encountered.
- Managing projects such that they are coordinated, administered, and delivered effectively on schedule and within budget.
- Keeping updated records of environmental and other reports.
- Managing Environmental Site Assessment and Land Survey requests. Preparing scope of work, obtaining and reviewing proposals, recommending survey consultants, preparing agreements, monitoring progress, reviewing submissions and recommending payments.

Qualifications

Required:
- University graduation in Environmental Engineering or related discipline
- 5 years of progressively responsible experience in Environmental Engineering including Water and Sanitary Sewer Services, Site Grading, Stormwater Management, Environmental Site Assessment, Surveys, etc.
- Registration as a P. Eng. or EIT with APEGA with good standing
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Assets:
- Strong technical competence and a good working knowledge of environmental engineering
- Knowledge of environmental codes, regulations, policies, guidelines, and standards as well as land surveying in Alberta
- Ability to develop terms of reference for consultant proposals and management of specialized consultants for clients within Infrastructure and other departments
- Understanding of project management including budget, resources, and scheduling skills
- Ability to work on computers and computer programs required to perform technical work, and familiarity with software used in the department in performing required duties

This position is a permanent, full – time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).
Location: Edmonton, AB
Valid Alberta Class 5 license to drive to work sites
