Role

As the Enterprise Data Architect, you will facilitate strategic planning for the end-to-end technology design and architecture of data solutions across the enterprise. You will contribute to the evolution of the Government of Alberta (GoA) Data Strategy, data management and related frameworks. You will have in-depth knowledge of solution architecture modelling, process modelling, data modelling and cloud design technologies, as well as knowledge of best-practice data platform design techniques.


The efforts of this role will improve access to and informed use of GoA data assets both within and outside of government in support of policy analysis, program planning, and decision-making. This role will require the ability to think and work tactically across the enterprise, as well as diving deeper into data topics related to architecture, platforms, access, and governance to support the GoA Data Strategy. The role supports Data Unit's Data Architecture and Product Delivery stream by working collaboratively with other enterprise architects, data product developers, data architects, data engineers and data scientists on a variety of data initiatives to ensure optimal data delivery architecture.\

 

Your responsibilities include:

  • Leading discussions with leaders/staff, partners, stakeholders, end-users, etc. to understand business direction and enterprise data/information requirements and their value;
  • Designing and delivering on enterprise data architecture related to data products and platforms;
  • Enabling a federated data platform architecture and improving the practice of data architecture within the enterprise;
  • Developing comprehensive data product requirements to serve as the basis for the design of the enterprise data platform, including critical data identification & classification, data standards, data governance &management practices, data infrastructure, etc.; and
  • Coaching, mentoring, and empowering staff to use creative thinking and develop innovative solutions.

Qualifications

A university degree in Computer Science or a related field, supplemented by at least four (4) years of related experience is required. See below for equivalencies.


Other requirements include:

  • Experience developing, delivering and implementing enterprise scale data platform architectures;
  • Experience developing data solutions in a federated data environment;
  • Strong strategic thinker with collaboration skills to work across functions and business; and
  • Excellent presentation skills with experience presenting to various levels of the organization.

 

The following will be considered assets:

  • Certification as an architecture professional in one or more domains (e.g. DAMA CDMP, CISSP, Business Architecture Guild CBA, MS Azure)
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture Frameworks (e.g. TOGAF, Gartner or Zachman), their use and implementation
  • Experience with cloud services such as Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform(GCP)

 

Equivalencies are:
A related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience.

Salary

$3,060.39 - $4,053.59 bi-weekly ($79,876 - $105,798 / year)

Notes

This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday.


Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.
