Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Project Management and Integration Branch, the Director, Transition support provides leadership, strategic direction and execution of complex workforce/transition approaches to help the department deliver on the health system refocusing initiative. This position is responsible for the development of detailed internal and external communications materials to support workforce transitions related to health system refocusing. 
 
As the Director, Transition support, you will work in close collaboration with the Executive Director to lead and implement workforce transitions to Alberta Health as well as to the new provincial health agencies. You will play in key part in facilitating conversations with senior leadership across the department, Alberta Health Services, provincial health agencies, other ministries, as well as directing contractors in addition to the following responsibilities; 

1) Lead strategic planning and implementation of workforce related strategies to support health system refocusing 
•    Undertake extensive internal engagement to understand resource needs and identify workstreams at AHS for transition. 
•    Lead transition team meetings with key partners (cross-department, cross-ministry, and Alberta Health Services) to ensure a robust transition plan is in place to support workforce transfers. This includes, but not limited to, leading and coordinating elements such as workforce analysis and data collection, labour relations, communications, onboarding activities, etc. 

2) Collaborate across divisions and organizations on refocusing workforce related items 
•    Support the development and implementation of a robust communication strategy to keep all stakeholders (employees, union representatives, management) informed about the transition process. 
•    Facilitate regular meetings and workshops to address concerns, gather feedback, and ensure transparency throughout the transition phase

3) Provide project management support for the branch and division;
•    Assist in organizing project management activities for the branch and division, ensuring milestones are met, and maintaining alignment with the branch's strategic goals during the transition. 
•    Facilitate coordination among cross-functional teams to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of transition efforts.

4) Provide branch leadership to the branch - supporting and enhancing the culture 
•    Support the development and communication of the branch's strategic direction, goals, and priorities. 
•    Provide effective guidance, leadership, and direction to the branch and oversee projects and assignments. 
•    Enhance communication channels and methods to ensure effective information sharing and transparency.

5) Lead organizational excellence, issues management and coordination of corporate reporting requirements  
•    Collaboration on branch operational planning and tracking documents to support health system refocusing initiatives. This includes, but is not limited, internal branch tracking, committee tracking, and request tracking. 
•    Participate in operational and strategic planning sessions, contributing perspectives, reviewing documents and supporting implementation of resulting strategies.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Health, Science, Business, Public Administration, Political Science, Social Sciences or related fields and Six years of related experience. 

Related 10 years of combined experience and/or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

Assets
•    Public administration or health system experience. Masters degree is preferred. 
•    Understanding of the GoA decision-making, legislative, and policy making process, with experience moving policy and strategies through these processes is an asset.
•    Senior-level management experience in developing and maintaining relationships, leading and motivating teams, and understanding workforce movement principles. 
•    Senior-level political accumen and the abiltiy to navigate and lead in highly confidential and sensitive enviroments. 
•    Senior-level analysis, presentation and communication skills.

Notes

This competition will be used to staff ONE (1) Full time Temporary position.

Hours of Work:
7.25 hours daily/ 36.25 hours weekly, Monday to Friday

Location:
ATB Place North, 10025 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta. This position requires working from the office with an option to qualify for a hybrid work arrangement (in accordance with GOA policy).
