The Ministry of Primary and Preventative Health Services is building a more resilient and sustainable health care system that can support Albertans getting care when and where they need it, while responding to system-wide health challenges, improving health outcomes and maintaining fiscal responsibility. Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Project Management and Integration Branch, this position is responsible for coordinating and project managing the health system refocusing initiative. The System Refocusing Division is responsible for implementing the new direction for Alberta's health care system to improve outcomes for Albertans and empower health care workers to deliver quality care across the province.

This position will lead within the Project Management & Integration branch; this branch leads integration of work and information across the health system refocusing initiative. It oversees the integrated project management office, coordinates ministry participation in strategic decision-making bodies, and collaborates across organizations on key initiatives that support implementation of the refocused health system.

The Director works closely with the management team to achieve the following key results:

Develop strategies to drive the Health System Refocusing Initiative forward:
•    Ensure the integration of work and information across the Health System Refocusing Initiative.
•    Monitor and evaluate the success of the initiative from a project management perspective.
•    Develop regular updates and reports for senior executives and political officials on the progress of the initiative.

Support collaboration across divisions on the health system refocusing initiative: 
•    Support the ministry in leading strategic decision-making bodies related to the health system refocusing initiative.
•    Collaborate with other ministries and external stakeholders to align decision-making processes.
•    Provide strategic guidance to branch and ministry staff on key decisions impacting the initiative.

Support senior official level committees related to the Health System Refocusing Initiative: 
•    Develop meeting agendas and materials to ensure productive discussions and decision-making.
•    Coordinate with leadership and committee members to gather input and feedback on key initiatives.
•    Provide strategic guidance and recommendations to senior officials based on committee discussions and outcomes.

Manage project management procurement activities for the division: 
•    Lead the updating of the Integration Project Plan for refocusing initiatives emerging from government planning and priority setting.
•    Track and report on project progress, budgets, risks, mitigations and plans.
•    Lead the procurement of goods and services related to the health system refocusing initiative in compliance with government regulations.
•    Direct the use of up-to-date best or leading practices associated with project management, change management and foster a system of ongoing learning and pursuit of improvements through benchmarks, targets, and evaluations.

Role Responsibilities continued

Provide leadership to a branch and oversee its operations, including HR, development, and other functions: 
•    Develop and communicate the branch's strategic direction, goals, and priorities.
•    Provide effective guidance, leadership, and direction to the branch and oversee projects and assignments.
•    Enhance communication channels and methods to ensure effective information sharing and transparency.
•    Provide guidance and support to staff on human resources related issues (such as recruitment, learning and development, and other functional areas)

Qualifications

University degree in Public Administration, Health Sciences, Political Science, Social sciences or related fields and Seven years of related experience.

Related 11 years of combined experience and/or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

Assets
•    Public administration or health system experience.
•    Understanding of the GoA decision-making, legislative, and policy making process, with experience moving
•    Policy and strategies through these processes is an asset.
•    Senior-level management experience in developing and maintaining relationships, and leading and motivating teams.
•    Senior-level analysis, presentation and communication skills.
