Role Responsibilities
The Correctional Planning and Innovation Branch provides strategic policy and planning functions for the Correctional Services Division, including areas of strategic workforce initiatives, technology related business processes and efficiencies, business transformation, provincial sentence administration, staff wellness and audits and investigations. In this regard, CPIB provides support to all CSD Branches and senior leadership.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, Correctional Planning and Innovation Branch, and leading the Staff Wellness Unit, you will be responsible for researching, creating, implementing, and overseeing programs related to staff wellness, employee reintegration, attendance support, and employee awards and recognition. This includes developing strategic and operational plans for these portfolios and participating on cross ministry and cross jurisdictional committees related to employee wellness.
Your position is multi faceted and requires strong organizational and people leadership skills, along with the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to effectively and efficiently deliver outcomes. You will define, develop, and deliver a strategy and framework for the programs you oversee, supporting the development of operational policies and processes. You will contribute to a supported, engaged, and collaborative workplace for personnel across the Division and participate on the Ministry Employee Engagement Committee.
Specific Accountabilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
- Develop, implement, and lead the Correctional Services Division Staff Wellness strategy.
- Lead the unit in preparing best practice research, briefing materials, FAQs and reports related to staff wellness initiatives and programs.
- Work with stakeholders to anticipate emerging needs, identify priority areas, and facilitate the development of effective solutions.
- Use employee and program data to understand trends, interpret findings, and inform actions and priorities that impact staff wellness.
- Support reintegration, accommodation and attendance initiatives for the Division
- Establish priorities, plans, set timelines, and oversee project execution, including evaluation and measuring outcomes.
- Contribute to forecasting, budgeting, and administrative compliance in accordance with Treasury Board and Finance and Procurement directives.
- Oversee Divisional employee awards and recognition programs, including coordinating eligibility, chairing committees, and overseeing the coordination of ceremonies and events.
- Participate on the Ministry Employee Engagement Committee and oversee the coordination of Ministry and GOA awards and recognition applications.

Qualifications
University graduation in a field such as Public Administration, Social Sciences, Humanities, Human Resources, or a related field, supplemented by seven (7) years of supervisory experience in a related field, including a minimum of three (3) years at the management level in a policy or program development role, with direct reports.
Preference will be given to Candidates with the experience in management level positions in the criminal justice/public safety environment.
Equivalency
Directly related education or experience may be considered on the basis of:
- one year of education for one year of experience; or
- one year of experience for one year of education.
Preferred Experience / Assets:
- At least 2 years of experience leading and implementing programs and projects within a large organization (500+ employees).
- Experience with program evaluation, outcomes measurement and analysis.
- Experience providing advice and briefing to executive leadership.
- Experience developing and implementing employee focused projects or programs.
- Knowledge of the Government of Alberta corporate policies and agreements (e.g., Code of Conduct, OHS, Collective Agreement, Human Rights, etc.).
