The Department of Hospital and Surgical Health Services establishes the Government of Alberta’s strategic direction for health, including advising government on health policy, legislation and standards, and public health concerns; monitoring and reporting health system performance; setting policies and priorities for the electronic/digital health environment; and providing oversight and ensuring accountability across the health system. Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Deputy Minister (DM), Hospital and Surgical Health Services, the Director is responsible for providing actionable adivce to the DM on a range of priority files in acute care sector and broader health system. This role uses comprehensive health system knowledge to proactively identify risks and opportunities on a range of health system files including: data and reporting, policy, change management and implementation, and issues management. Excellent relationship building skills are necessary as this role requires coordination and interaction with a diverse group of stakeholders internal and external to the government including on project teams.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Health, Business, Political Science, Social Sciences, or a related field, supplemented by seven (7) years progressively responsible experience.

 

Experience

  • Senior-level leadership experience in public administration or the health system
  • Senior-level management experience in developing and maintaing relationships. 
  • Understanding of the GoA decision-making, legislative, and policy making process, with experience moving policy and strategies through these processes is an asset. 
  • Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills
