Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Law Enforcement and Oversight Branch, as the Director, you hold a critical leadership role overseeing six distinct program areas: the Peace Officer, Security Services and Body Armour Control Programs, Policing Standards and Audits, Automated Traffic Enforcement, Breath Tech Coordination, and the Office of the Sheriff  - Civil Enforcement. These programs span a wide range of law enforcement functions, from regulatory oversight and standards development to operational coordination and civil enforcement. That said, you will be responsible for ensuring that each program operates in alignment with legislative mandates, public safety objectives, and ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities include:

•    Ensures all Alberta police services are compliant with the Provincial Policing Standards and associated Guidelines.
•    Establish priorities and facilitate research and ongoing development in support of the Provincial Policing Standards and associated Guidelines as well as Alberta's Breath Testing Program identified by internal means and/or external stakeholders.
•    Establish and maintain effective working relationships with external stakeholders such as senior police executives, senior executives with provincial oversight bodies and municipalities.
•    provide direction and oversight to the Security Services and Investigators and Body Armour Control Programs.
•    Provide leadership and strategic direction to the Peace Officer Program.

In total, this position is responsible for six provincial programs. Additionally, this position has been designated by the Minister of Justice and Solicitor General to exercise the powers and perform the duties of the Registrar for both the Security Services and Investigators Program and the Body Armour Control Program. The role of the Registrar is to protect the public interest and ensure that both program areas produce effective and appropriate enforcement exercised in accordance with existing legislative and policy frameworks.

Qualifications

University graduation in a related field, supplemented by seven (7) years of police or law enforcement environment experience. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis. 

Please note that a minimum of four (4) years of experience leading a team in a managerial and/or supervisory role is required.

The following are considered assest for this role:

•    Extensive knowledge of the Criminal Code, Police Act, Peace Officer Act, Security Services and Investigators Act, Body Armour Control Act and Traffic Safety Act.
•    Extensive knowledge of municipal policing, First Nations Policing, provincial policing, supplementary law enforcement and security industry in Alberta.
•    Experience and knowledge of audits and compliance programs.
•    Knowledge of Alberta Provincial Policing Standards and associated Guidelines

Notes

This is a permanent full-time position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

This position will entail some travel  to various locations within Alberta, as it is a requirement of some job responsibilities. Successful candidates must have and maintain a valid Class 5 Drivers License.
