The Labour Market Evidence (LME) unit is responsible for collecting, analyzing and disseminating labour market information in Alberta and conducting labour market research.

Role Responsibilities

The Director of LME reports to the Executive Director of Evidence, Policy and Governance.

The key responsibilities of the position include:

  1. Leading a team of nine labour market economists.
  2. Presenting information and updates on the labour market to decision makers and to internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Overseeing the Government of Alberta’s labour market information system, including Alberta’s Labour Market Information portal.
  4. Ensuring all labour market information used in the policy development process and for the department’s communications products is accurate and up to date.
  5. Identifying opportunities to leverage internal and external data sources to develop labour market forecasts.

Qualifications

University graduation in a field related to the position Economics, Statistics, Social Science or a related field supplemented by six years related experience. A graduate degree in Economics is an asset.

Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

Expertise/Experience required:

Essential Qualifications:

  • Experience in leading and managing staff.
  • Proven track record in leading and/or managing research projects.
  • Strong understanding of labour economics.
  • Ability to present labour market information to decision makers and other stakeholders.  
  • Ability to understand and interpret statistical information.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.


Asset Qualifications:

  • Experience in the development and delivery of statistical/information services.
  • Experience in delivering economic research projects.

This is a permanent position based in Edmonton or Calgary. Hours of work are Monday to Friday - 36.25 hours per week.
