Role Responsibilities
The Director, Executive Operations role under the Associate Deputy Minister for Health provides the opportunity to expand and enhance your background and experience in leadership and be able to identify strategic issues impacting the Ministry. Your ability to deal in a multifaceted, fast-paced environment, identifying key issues, including legal implications, risks and mitigation strategies are critical skills required in fulfilling the requirements of this position.
The position performs essential role in assisting the Associate Deputy Minister, is are a key liaisons to the Minister's Office, Deputy Minister’s Office, Executive Council, other ministry Deputy Minister Offices, and ministry staff.
The Director, Executive Operations position is responsible for:
- Providing support, advice and consultation to the Associate Deputy Minister on strategies, issues, and policies related to the strategic direction of the ministry and on program and policy development
- Managing the tracking, timing, and delivery of key deliverables
- Leadership supervision of the Associate Deputy Minister’s Office
- Work with other Minister's Director’s of Executive Operations to ensure coordination on departmental initiatives.
- Working collaboratively on major cross government initiatives
- Supplying comprehensive information and advice in support of strategic and operational planning and decision making
- Briefing the Associate Deputy Minister, as well as the Minister and executive team on policy and program issues, and ensuring timely flow of information
The ideal candidate will:
- Be able to critically analyze issues to recommend solutions
- Have demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and the ability to think strategically about issues impacting the ministry and Government of Alberta mandates
- Understand the legislative process and cabinet decision making process
- Be able to grasp the nuances and sensitivities among various items, including those that share similarities but possess subtle differences
- Exercise a high level of judgement and awareness when working in a political environment
- Have the ability to build relationships with stakeholders and communicate effectively and efficiently; resolving conflict and negotiating when required
- Possess strong research skills
- Demonstrate agility when working in a high pressure environment

Qualifications
University graduation in a related field supplemented by a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience.
Preference will be given to candidates who have issues management experience in a public sector organization.
Experience working in a role where you provided advice or consultation on strategies, issues and policies in a law enforcement or criminal justice environment will be considered an asset.
Experience with the policy development cycle, decision making process and legislative procedures will be considered an asset.
Related experience that will be considered includes but is not limited to issues management, policy development in a government setting, and consultation on policy or legislative matters.
Related education that will be considered includes but is not limited to public administration, business administration, justice studies, criminology, sociology, and political science.
Equivalencies may be considered on the basis of one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

Notes
We are currently filling permanent full-time position in Edmonton.
The Director, Executive Operations will be required to respond to urgent or emergency items outside of the normal weekly work schedule. This includes evenings and weekends.
Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.
