The Digital Design and Delivery (DDD) division within the Ministry of Technology and Innovation (TI) leads the development of the next generation of digital public services for the GoA. DDD partners with other departments to deliver products, platforms and services that are better, faster, and easier, through modern user-centered agile processes. DDD offers potential candidates a unique opportunity to work on meaningful challenges that transform government and positively impact Albertans.
The Platforms branch within DDD is accountable for supporting ministry programs through the planning, development, delivery and operations of user-centered common platform services. The branch builds and develops common platforms and data services that enable product teams to deliver working software that meets the needs of their users.
Role Responsibilities
The Platforms branch is looking for two (2) Digital Architects. Reporting to the Director, Platform Strategy, the Digital Architect contributes to the identification of parameters for what “government-as-platform" should look like, making recommendations to leadership for plans that span development to implementation.
The responsibilities of this role include:
- Shape and advance the government-as-platform vision, identifying opportunities across ministries and contributing to strategic plans from concept through implementation.
- Provide strategic advice to leadership on platform direction, governance, and investment priorities, aligning plans with enterprise needs and digital transformation goals.
- Drive development and adoption of platform practices and standards, with a focus on interoperability, data platforms, and modern digital delivery approaches.
- Build and sustain strong stakeholder relationships, collaborating across ministries, product teams, and external partners to align priorities and enable platform adoption.
- Provide expert guidance on platform design and technology, ensuring solutions align with enterprise architecture, governance frameworks, and best practices.
- Advance innovation through AI and automation, applying these tools to improve analysis, planning, and delivery while managing risk, quality, and responsible use.
- Support branch and divisional priorities, contributing to performance insights, reporting, and translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable advice.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- A university degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology, Commerce), supplemented by four (4) years of progressively responsible, related experience.
- Experience working as a software architect or senior developer within Agile delivery environments, including leading and delivering complex solutions.
- Experience using AI-enabled or automation tools to support analysis, planning, delivery, or decision-making in digital environments.
- Demonstrated ability to guide and mentor teams, implement best practices, and lead projects to successful outcomes.
- Strong ability to communicate technical concepts and provide advice to inform solution architecture and decision-making.
- In-depth knowledge of software architecture principles, including DevOps, CloudOps, and platform services.
- A cover letter clearly demonstrating relevant skills and competencies tailored to this position.
Equivalencies:
- A related master’s degree and a minimum of two (2) years of related experience; or
- A related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; or
- A related one-year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience.
Assets:
- Experience in user-centred digital delivery and design approaches.
- Experience mentoring teams and promoting design best practices.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams applying UX, service design, or design thinking method.
- Experience designing or delivering solutions in high-trust digital service domains, such as digital credentials, authentication, or payments platforms.
